Your opinion on mall Santas?

My MIL was shocked when I said I wasn't taking Isabella to the mall to get a picture with Santa. I guess it never crossed my mind. I never did that when I was growing up because we never lived near a mall. And the Santa that my sister takes my niece and nephew to looks creepy.

So I'm curious, how many of you take your kids to the mall to get pictures with Santa? And which mall and was it a creepy Santa or normal looking one.

 TIA!

Re: Your opinion on mall Santas?

  • lol! The whole concept IS sorta creepy. I think the easter bunny looks way creepier though.

We took Boston last year and probably will again this year. He wasn't too creepy last time. We go to the Steeplegate Mall in Concord.

  • Im not a big fan of Mall Santas....

My MIL wants to bring Will to see the Disney Santa while we are down there next week.  Im still "iffy" on it.

  • Well, I probably won't - I think my parents have maybe 1 photo of my brothers with Santa and my middle brother is screaming his head off :) I never got a photo with Santa, I would go up to him and stand by him (not sit on his lap) and tell him what I wanted, as a kid...but never got a photo with him, because as a kid he always kind of creeped me out....I don't like the idea of putting preasure on a kid for the sake of a photo
  • Umm...good question.  I am not sure...i think we might swing by the mall and check him out first.  If he looks good...I think I will try to get a picture with Santa.  If the lines are too long though...no way!
  • We took Brianna last year and we will probably do the same this year.  DH and I both grew up visiting Santa at the mall.  Thats normal to us, so we'll continue it with Brianna.  I don't see the harm and its something fun for them to do.  Although I HATE waiting in that line!!  We live in Salem, so we go to that mall.
  • We took Alex last year and we'll be taking both the kids this year. The one at the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua is phenomenal. :)
  • I do not do the mall santas with my baby or my 9 year old.  I don't think I want to make my kid sit on any strangers lap, no matter what the holiday tradition is.  I did it as a kid, and thats one of the reasons I don't do it!  It makes me sad to see kids freaking out and crying because they don't feel comfortable.  Not a good memory for anybody, and definately not a kodak moment.
