Re: Starbucks?

  • Skinny Vanilla Latte
Black tea and lemonade slightly sweetened
    Upside down Caramel Frap
    Vanilla Bean Frap
    Nonfat Chai Latte
Salted Caramel Frap (in the fall)

  • I was looking up all different drinks online and ended up going with a Hot Triple Grande Decaf Cinnamon Dolce Latte with a pump of mocha and a pump of caramel.  It was delicious!

  • Hot Drinks - Skinny Caramel (or Hazlenut) Latte.  Salted Caramel Mocha is pretty amazing but it has lots of sugar!

Cold Drinks - Caramel Frappuccino Light Double Blend.  The Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino that they had this summer was AMAZING but holy sugar!

(Can you tell I LOVE caramel?!?!)

I only go to Starbucks during the holiday when Peppermint Mocha's are available.
I don't know if you want to know this, but Peppermint Mochas aren't seasonal.  You can get them all year.  They just aren't always on the menu board because the stores are promoting other things and need the space.
Pumpkin Spice and a few others are only stocked in the fall/winter, but sbux have peppermint syrup and mocha all the time.

I used to work there.  These are my fave combos:
nonfat no water cinnamon Chai latte

Wait they water down my chai? Just the hot or the iced to? I might have to try the no water.

I usually make my own but I still get a Starbucks venti chai (iced or hot depending on the season) occasionally.

  • I don't like coffee and I'm usually disappointed by their tea. There is only one Starbucks location (in the Philippines!) where they made chai lattes up to my standards. My friends and I figured out the perfect formula: no water, extra hot, 5 pumps for a tall. Here in Canada, I usually opt for a London Fog (Earl Grey Latte).
  • I don't think anyone's mentioned my favorite for a hot day - green tea frappuccino! Soooo cool and creamy and delicious.

Just the hot.  Iced chai is just chai concentrate and milk.  The logic is that the chai pumps are actually chai concentrate, and they need to add hot water to "activate" it (ie make it tea).  So the recipe is 3-5 pumps (depending on size), fill about halfway with hot water, finish with milk.

My manager was constantly telling me this had to be done to get the full flavor of the chai, but I feel like it makes the consistency watered down.  3-5 pumps is close to the amount of liquid in a s shot of espresso, and they don't add water to lattes.

I do usually make it with an extra pump or two (as kipnus suggested) when I'm making it myself, or when I'm getting someone's employee discount.  Price-wise, if you add cinnamon it comes out the same as extra pumps of chai, and sometimes I'm in the mood for that instead.  It's a slightly different flavor.

The boxes of chai that you can buy in the store are not the same, by the way.  Employees can mark out a box of chai, or tea bags, or a pound of coffee every week, so I tried the chai a few times.  They've already added water to those, so it takes a lot more of it to get the same flavor.  I ended up pouring most of a glass of just chai and topping it with a splash of milk.

Very interesting. Now I know why I liked their iced more than their hot! And why I disliked the homemade chai tea I made with that concentrate. I found a recipe and make my own from bags of tea. I am still perfecting it, but I like it more than Starbucks and it's way cheaper!

This is totally me. I never go to Starbucks, though. We have one here in our Target, but since I don't like coffee what's the point of spending all that money?
If I do go, though, that's what I get, or a hot chocolate.

  • This info about the chai is a revelation. I can't wait to try ordering one no water to taste the difference!
