NBR Clear something up for me...

I'm coming to you, ladies of NBC, as my home board, for clarification after lurking on The Bump for about a month (possibly a big mistake)

What is the purpose of a UO thread?

Should one expect a) people airing unpopular opinions and possibly discussing them, b) people confessing unpopular/offensive opinions and being flamed for it, c) mass chaos  ?

  • Mass chaos sounds about right.

Basically its a thread for people looking for a fight.
  • Never heard of it.... Sorry I am no help. I havent been on the bump at all though.

  • huh.
Maybe we're just more civil.  Most UO threads I'd seen before fit more into the a) category.  But when I questioned it on the TB, I got called out as a newb (LOL... silly new format that doesn't show I've been posting since 2008.... although TB is clearly a diff animal from the Nest).
  • Thank you for further validating my original belief that The Bump is crazy.

    Also, what Eli said.

  • I was just so confused... like... why would you post an UO if you expected to get flamed for it?  It's like trolling yourself
    /:)
  • The Bump is a scary place where rules of civil behavior don't apply. Don't go there.

  • UO posts on The Bump either go one way or the other. If you are popular, people will validate your UO, because baaaaaaa. Sheep. If you are unpopular, or a newbie, they will rip you to shreds. The end.

  • The Bump boards are a bit like a roller coaster. Some are nice and happy some are darn right rude if you don't fall into a set framework. I have never seen a UO post and if I had I would not have gone back.
    Anniversary
  • The first time I saw that unpopular opinion thing was as a hashtag on Twitter last night.  This exists other places on the Interwebz?

  • That's kind of what I gathered.  I think I will stick to the Name board and not stray to where they're talking about actual pregnancy.  The snark on the name board is much more entertaining, and usually less personal.
  • The Bump sounds like a scary place where Pennywise waits for me in the sewer.
I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

I feel like I saw it here first, but maybe not.  I definitely thought I knew what it was before I opened it, and then was surprised to find a 6 page debate over natural childbirth with name calling.  Also, this one chick made the mistake of saying she didn't think pregnancy was a miracle, and she got eaten alive.

At which point I stupidly asked what the purpose was.

Apparently I had UO mixed up with FFF or something.
  • I think we need a link.

  • Looks like a pretty typical first tri UO thread, haha. People are newly pregnant and now know everything they need to know. It's miraculous how that happens! Check back in in April 2014 and see who's singing the same tune. My BMB was September 2012 and were labeled the mean girls. I wasn't a regular participant but it was a blast to sit back and watch.

    It's slippery as waterweed.
  • Oh gosh, people can be nutty! And I don't think pregnancy hormones help.

  • I read the first two pages and came back.  I don't get why they're arguing over unpopular opinions.  I mean, they all know it's going to be unpopular.  That's why they post them in the first place.  Just state your UO and move on.

This was exactly my point.  I mean.... are they just trying to contain all the flaming to one post?  Like, to get it out of their systems?

This is exactly what I was thinking. You ladies have been pregnant for 5 minutes and are suddenly the ultimate authority on child birthing and rearing? STFU.

And now I understand what UO stands for.  I have no place on TB anyhow.

  • Posts like those make me thankful we don't plan on having children.

  • Yea, it usually turns into a burning pile of ruins by the end of the day. Before I got to the part where you posted the link, I was going to ask if you'd been on April '14 today!!! :) Our UO got WAY out of hand, it's on like page 10 by now and this one girl just will. not. let. it. die. But honestly, she just didn't "get" what was going on and ran off into Crazytown. We attracted people from other boards just to come watch the show. :)

But really, the point is to air/possibly discuss an unpopular opinion.
  • Can we promise to never have an Unpopular Opinion thread?
