Job update-Interview

I have an interview at an Elementary school tomorrow. I am kind of nervous, but hopeful that I might be able to get this one. Question though, I had not planned on telling the principals at the interviews that I was pregnant for fear that I may not get the job. When would you guys advise me telling them? I really don't think I should tell at the interview, but how soon after I get the job should I let them know? How would you go about telling them? It's all so complicated.... ugh...

I could really use T&P for my interview tomorrow also.

Re: Job update-Interview

  • Legally, you absolutely do not have to tell them.  They are also legally barred from asking you.  I would guess that given there were equally qualified applicants, if you told them you would not get the position :(  I would probably try to hide it.  Are you showing yet?

At most I look a little bloated. With a looser fitting shirt they would never know.

  • As a member of management at my company who is in charge of interviewing and hiring, they definitely cannot ask you. This doesn't mean they wouldn't let it sway their decision (even though it's wrong), so I would keep it to myself. Provided you get hired, you can tell them anytime after that when you are comfortable. They certainly can't fire you for it.

Best of luck to you! Keep us updated!

  • Is this a first round interview? I would tell them if you get a call back. I would also think of your "plan" of how much time you'd want off and explain how you are hoping to work that out.

They only have 1 interview and you either get the job or you don't.  I really only want whatever the standard amount of time off is, and maternity is covered under the state benefits you get with the job. (I may not get the entire time paid-may use up all leave).

  • Don't tell them at the interview.

If you get hired, tell them when the time feels right (I would probably say something after a week or two but not right away because I wouldn't want that to be my "first impression").
