Happy Friday!! What are you reading?

How go you like it so far? Is it for one of the challenges or just fun?

Re: Happy Friday!! What are you reading?

  • I'm still reading Phantom of the Opera. I'm about 75% done. I was making good progress on it until Monday when I got sick. I haven' t read at all since then. I usually read at night before bed and have just been way to tired all week.

I'm liking it more than I did when I first started it. It's # 18 of my goal of 25 for the year.

I am reading The Orchid House. I am about half way through and so far and not such a fan. So far I don't hate it enough to quite but I am pretty sure I won't like it all that much.
    It is 39/75 this year.

  • I am about halfway through the fifth House of Night book.  I'm getting a little tired of the excessive romantic entanglements of the main character.  I still like the story and some characters outside of that, so I'll keep reading.
I also just finished Shadow Heir, which I thought had some nicely foreshadowed twists.

They will fall somewhere around 135 for the year.

  • I'm about 75% through The Sea of Tranquility.  I'm enjoying it and I'm excited to get back to reading it each night, but I'm not really sure why.  It's kind of odd.  #41

I'm also listening to Twice Tempted (Night Prince #2) by Jeaniene Frost. I'm not loving this series as much as Night Huntress, though it might just be the audible version. #42.

I was going to listen to Fall of Giants, but I found out an hour in that I had the abridged version! ARG!  :((

  • I just finished Best Staged Plans by Claire Cook and really liked it. It was 79/100. I am now going to start The Last Original Wife by Dorothea Benton Frank.

  • I'm two chapters into The Returned by Jason Mott. It's really good so far!
  • I'm still reading Winter of the World by Ken Follett. I hope to finish it next week. I'm also reading Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan and really enjoying it so far. I finished listening to The Girl Who Played with Fire this week. I enjoyed it but thought it was too loooooong. I am listening to Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman in the car and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak at work.

I am 53/75 for the year.

  • I am currently reading:

    - Theodore Roosevelt: A Life by Nathan Miller.  It is book #50 for the year and it is for my presidential challenge.

    also reading:

    - The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum.  It is book #51 for the year.  I needed something sick and twisted to balance out the presidential bio.

  • I'm listening to Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. I'm still not very far into it, but I'm enjoying it.

I'm also reading Outlander, but that's kind of slow going.

I have When You Were Mine by Elizabeth Noble on the back burner. I started reading it for book club, but it turns out that book club is now on a day that I won't be able to go. I'll probably still finish the book but the other two books are more of a priority.

I'm not doing any challenges this time around. I think they are numbers 20-22ish for the year.

  • Reading: The Fault in our Stars. It's okay so far, but I don't think I'm deep enough in yet to really be in love.

Listening to: Still picking away at Divine Evil.  It's good, but it's creepy.

  • Finishing up The Ocean at the End of the Lane.  I feel like I'm on some crazy drug.  Not sure what I'm picking up next.  My Kindle is quite loaded for vacation.

Listening to Every Crooked Nanny by Mary Kay Andrews.  It's a repub (?) of an old book from the 90s.  I keep wondering why they don't have cell phones!  And the N word has been thrown in there a couple times, which I don't like.

62 and 63 for the year.

  • Reading Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare.  Listening to Vision in White by NR.  The narrator for VIW is the same one that does Bloodlines.

    My favorite Cake Wreck ever.

  • I'm about 1/4 of the way into The Secret History of the War on Cancer by Devra Davis.  A Bumpie in my BMB asked me to read it with her so she would have someone to talk to about it, and it's right up my alley.  It's very good; totally holding my interest.  But at the same time, it's upsetting to read about how much industry has controlled the direction of cancer research for so long, and how things like protecting DuPont's bottom line has led researchers to forever focus on treatments instead of on prevention.

I'm pretty sure it's number 17 for the year.  No goals, no challenges.
  • I'm almost done DwD and Children of the mind - Orsen Scott Card.  I really hope to finish both, because I was 8 books ahead of my goal and I'm now 3 books ahead.  If I finish I'll start reading Safe Heaven (I need fluffy after GRRM) and listening to Shadow of the wind - Carlos Zafron.

I am also working on Shattered by Tahereh Mafi. It is okay.

  • I finished Vengeance in Death (book 6) by JD Robb so since my Amazon package won't be here until today I just went ahead and started Holiday in Death (book 7). I'm about 50 pages in and it's good so far. I loved book 6 though.

It's number 22 for the year.

  • I just started Surrender to Sultry this morning, it feels so good to be back in Sultry Springs, lol.

  • I'm listening to Gone Girl and just got to a big twist- loving it. I'm hoping to finish it today at work. It'll be 39 of 65. Where'd You Go Bernadette is next in line for audio books.

I'm reading Orlando by Virginia Woolf and so far it's good. It's a quicker read than I expected so I hope to make some good progress on that this weekend and maybe even finish it. It'll be 40 of 65. After that I plan to start A Feast for Crows so I can read A Dance With Dragons once DH is done with it.

  • I'm still reading City of Bones. It's pretty good; I'm just so tired when I finally sit down to read. I'm almost finished listening to Identical by Ellen Hopkins. It's a typical book for her, but the narrator's voice is annoying.

  • I'm reading The Hangman's Daughter on my Kindle.  It's just ok to me and I'm about half way through.  I finished Where'd You Go Bernadette last night, I really enjoyed it.  I'll start a new book when I get home but I don't know what it will be!

  • I just started The Shade of the Moon by Susan Beth Pfeffer. It's book #4 of the Last Survivors series. I really loved books 1 and 2, and 3 was just ok. I'm only a chapter or so in, so no opinion yet.
