Question for my already mommies

Okay, so my doctor told me that first time moms can go a week past the EDD. I really enjoy feeling her movements but I do not want her to cook for an extra week.

So my question is, you go past your EDD?

Re: Question for my already mommies

  • No, she came 2 days before her EDD.

  • Nope. I went into early labor at 32 weeks and got these awful shots twice to stop labor. Then after 36 weeks I said no more stopping it. At 38 weeks 2 days I had an appointment and I was in between a 3 and 4 dialated, DD was +1 but not yet engaged and 100% effaced. I also gained 9 lbs in a week from swelling. My doctor said she was on call that night and if I came in I would not leave without a baby. So they gave me a shot of pitocin at 1030pm after getting up to a 4 from walking. I had her at 250pm the next day.

  • No, I was induced early due to signs of pre-e.  That said, when I went in for the induction (a week early) I had made zero progress on my own, so it would not have surprised me if she'd been late, if they would have let me go on.

  • This gives me hope!
  • B came two weeks early. All three of my sisters' kids came two weeks late. You just never know.

My best friend was induced 2 weeks after her due date with her first, and went at least a few days, if not a week past her due date with her second. It definitely happens.

  • My water broke a week early. I've heard up to 42 weeks before induction as long as there's no medical reason to induce. It depends on what you discuss with your doctor. I had gestational diabetes and I would have been induced at 41 weeks and 3 days as long as everything looked ok up to that point.
  • Just curious - is there a reason besides discomfort that you don't want her to be late?
  • Nope. I got sick and had to be induced. It didn't work. I returned a few days later for monitoring and found I had high bp and help.'i was induced again. He was 2ish weeks early.

  • M came a week and a half early on her own terms. My water didn't break but contractions started so we went in when they were 5 minutes apart.

  • With DD (who is now 11) I went 4 days over based on u/s dating since I didn't track back then. With DS I was to the day and I had heard second babies can come early. So I'm interested to see what this one will do.

    Lesson learned!!

  • Nope. I went into labor at 37 weeks and 4 days. DS was born the next day. I am nervous this one will come early, too!

  • Just curious - is there a reason besides discomfort that you don't want her to be late?

No reason at all besides discomfort. I rather her come when she's ready, just my back is killing me. And also the reason that I want to meet her already, I'm impatient but I can wait. :-)
  • Based on everything you ladies said, I'm guessing I will either go to the day or until September 19th. (That's when my doctor said they would induce me if she didn't come on September 12th). Everything has been normal my whole pregnancy and no problems yet so I'll just prepare myself to go late.
  • I was due 8/7, DS decided to break my water and came on 8/1. I think it is common for ftm to go past their dd.

If things had been different for me (no breech, no GD/high risk). I would have wanted lo to come in their own, best chance for a vaginal birth.

As it was, I was soooo happy that lo chose their bd, it was special.

  • I probably would have but since he was breech they weren't going to wait and let me go into labor on my own. I had a c/s 3 days before his EDD.

  • @Cinderin I want her to come on her own. I don't want to rush her I just wish she would hurry up. Lol!!
that last week before LO arrived, I was pretty miserable (I think most women are). I resolved to really "enjoy" being PG since I knew it was going to be over soon. I would spend a lot of time talking to LO and feeling every movement, thinking about how it would be our last time together in this way. I am glad I did. :-)

  • Cole came 4 days early but I don't think he was ready. My doctor broke my water by accident.

  • I was induced 4 days after my due date. Ironically I had had 3 triage visits and an overnight admission, and was taken off work 6 weeks before my due date, because of repeat pre-term labor episodes. Then he wouldn't come out.

    Crap. Now I'm crying too.

I will try to enjoy the rest of our time together like this. It's hard and with this heat it's been hard on me but I know deep down I'm going to miss her movements (even though she makes me pee a lot with her movements at night).

    Thank you ladies.

@Cinderin You made me realize that I should try to enjoy the rest of this pregnancy. Thank you :)
