Monday recovery/Weekend stories/Vents

I swear our weekend was more like a staycation than a regular weekend! The kids and DH slept in the tent in the backyard both nights (he wanted to set it up and make sure it wasn't too wet when we packed it up after camping). Saturday we were at Kennywood for 9 hours and Sunday we spent the majority of the day at a pool/backyard party.

It was great!

Except for the fact that I'm exhausted, our house is a disaster area, we barely did any laundry this weekend, I didn't go to the grocery store and our cleaning person comes tomorrow. We're going to H's favorite restaurant tonight, in honor of the first day of school, and then the rest of the evening will be filled with chores to try to get back on track.

And on top of all that, when DH went to get the one load of laundry that we did this weekend out of the dryer this morning, the dryer wasn't producing heat. Ugh. The last thing I want to do right now is buy a new appliance!

  • Brian survived the Tough Mudder, so I was proud of him for that! (and happy that he didn't sustain any major injuries!)

  • This is my first day back to work since August 7th. This is so tough. I've not had that much uninterrupted time with G since maternity leave. I'm really missing him today.

Before I left, I sent out a huge document for review and thought for sure I would come back to a mountain of edits/comments/feedback. I'm pleasantly surprised to find that there's only a few changes necessary.

Casey started a movie today. I'm not sure I'm ready to be a single parent again. He's been off since January. This is going to be a very hard transition.

  • Fun weekend!  I usually find that my house is in good shape on busy weekends, since we are not home to destroy it! =)

We had a good weekend.  Mason had 2 birthday parties for friends from school, he had a lot of fun and it was nice to talk to parent's that I usually don't talk to.  (Although, as I mentioned in a previous post, we almost missed one of the parties because we didn't get the invitation...and we missed one last weekend for the same reason.  I am mortified that I am a non-RSVP'er!)  We also had a family picnic yesterday, which was fun.

My weekend story would be that I had a confrontation with someone in the parking lot of Toys R Us.  As I was parking, the person in the car a few spaces away from me littered out their car window.  I'm not talking just a small piece of garbage, but they threw a McDonald's cup and food bag full of trash out the window. As I was walking past, I picked it up, and said "Really?" and started walking it towards the garbage can (which was maybe 10 feet away from their car).  Then the woman proceeded to scream at me!  We exchanged a few words and I held my own, but once I got into the store I was shaking like scaredy cat.  I can't believe I got yelled at for picking up someone else's freaking garbage!  (One of the things she said was, "I didn't throw it out the window, my kid did!"  Um, not any better sweetheart.)

  • We had a busy weekend at my parents house.
Family reunion on Saturday.  I got to see my aunt 3 months into her chemo treatments--which I was really nervous about, but she looks great.  She's lost nearly all of her hair, including her eyebrows, but she is still in great spirits and says she has a few bad days following treatment but the majority of days are good.  She starts weekly treatments this week, so please pray that they continue to go well!

Sunday we did had the kid's pictures taken.  I think she got some great shots, despite Nolan being a bit crabby from all of the weekend activity.  We also got some done with the kids, my grandfather and the pony, which I can't wait to see.

  • I didn't really have much of a weekend.  I worked until almost 8pm on Friday night.  Saturday was catch up day from being busy all week - laundry, cleaning up, Sam's Club.   I had to work yesterday for the graduation ceremony we have for our students.  (DH took the boys fishing and on a picnic).
I hope to fill this coming weekend with fun since I missed out this week!
  • Meghan, good for you for picking it up and holding your own!  I'd have had the same reaction afterwards, though.
  • Ours was a great weekend.  Friday, I loved having the kids outside and playing until 11pm or so with the neighbors.  I love love love that the neighbors who are like 7-13 will welcome DD into the game and they all "know" to let her kick and run the bases first. They are so sweet and it makes me love my neighborhood 10x more to know that the other parents have raised awesome kids.

Saturday, we had a royal tea party at another neighbor's house and then our block party carnival that night that lasted until like 1am when I threw in the towel.  We had a duck race in the stream and tons of food, games, movies, popcorn...about 50 kids and 65 adults were there.

I worked all day (24 hours :( so DH had to take the kids 2 hours each way to my nephew's birthday party and back.  Love him for that.  I know it was hard being semi-hungover from the block party.

This morning, I was up at 5:45 to book our Disney dining reservations and still didn't get Be Our Guest :(
