POLL: Where in the world...

Re: POLL: Where in the world...

  • I chose East but that's just the direction I live in.  I'm really in the Mid Atlantic area.

  • Perhaps I should have done it by state...

Though I was going to have the options as:
    Chicago
    Everywhere else

  • I'm not even from FL and I don't think of it as the South.

    Same here.

I am from Delaware. I consider my area to be more Mid-Atlantic. I remember when a girl I met in the Marine Corps found out that I was from Delaware, she said "Oh, so you're from New England too?".  Ummm, no. She was from Rhode Island, I think. I am thinking she was just geographically-challenged, to put it nicely.

  • Ha!  I was wondering what the Florida ladies would pick.  I'm another who doesn't consider FL (except northern FL) as part of the South.

Honestly, I have never considered Florida NOT part of the south.  There is a whole bunch of South and if you look at a map of the US, it's definitely the southern part of the country.  I apologize to you Floridians.

  • I'm from SC, but Florida is definitely not the South. I'm not sure what it is, and though it is geographically south of me, it's not "the" south.

  • Florida is a ridiculous state. Northern and Central FL are definitely southern. Tampa and South Florida are sort of their own territories.

  • This poll is going to be skewed for a while. Looks like I'm the only West-coaster out of bed at the moment ;)
What part of the west coast? I put CO as west, cause there wasnt a mountain section.

  • I also do not consider Florida South.  I also don't consider Texas South, but that is what I marked for me.  Anyone else have opinions on Texas.

I feel like Texas & Florida are both their own entities. Not sure why.

Is it weird that I often think of southern FL as part of New England?  I mean, not "officially", but there are just so many New England transplants there.  Whenever I see Tampa/Red Sox games on TV, there are definitely more Sox fans in the stands than Rays fans. . .

New York, on the other hand is decidedly NOT part of New England.  Not even the northern parts that border on VT and look a lot like VT.

I agree. Neither fit with the geographical stereotypes used to describe regions of our county

  • I feel weird saying Southern CA is the southwest but that's what I clicked. I think of tumbleweeds, cactus, and turquoise jewelry when I think of the southwest.

  • I lived in TX when I was younger, and we moved there from the northeast (my parents are from Long Island). My mom was in the post office once, and the guy behind the counter asked her what country she was from. She didn't think she had heard him correctly, so she asked, "Do you mean what PART of the country?" He said, "No, what country?" So she shared that she was from New York. His reply? "GASP! You're an AMERICAN?!?!?!?!"

Texas. It's like a whole other country.

There are a lot of PA/NJ people here, right?  It would be cool to meet up in NY or something.  Massive GTG.

Where?  (Did we already talk about this?)  I'm in the Lehigh Valley near Allentown.
