I get that the VMAs are supposed to be over the top, but she was just flat out trying too hard. And the tongue just grossed me out.

I voted "other" because she is an adult and it's the VMAs so I don't think it's inappropriate.

I just feel so embarrassed for her because she is trying so desperately hard to be sexy and edgy which makes what she is doing the exact opposite of sexy and edgy. I also wish she would keep her tongue in her mouth and go away for a little while!

I think it's disgusting that she's exploiting another culture and degrading black women by using them as props. Also, she's not freaking twerking! She's just shaking her ass back and forth.

I think all signs point to heavy, amphetamine-type drug use and/or some sort of manic episode. In either case, I feel for the girl and hope she gets some help.

Plus, why isn't anyone asking if what Robin Thicke did was disgusting? There were two of them taking part in that "dance".

I agree with this. It really seemed like something was wrong with her, and that's what disturbed me.

I don't know that I'd say totally inappropriate and disgusting- but more like it was weird and desperate for attention.

I don't give Robin Thicke a pass, but I don't judge him nearly as hard as Miley. He wasn't half naked, shaking his ass all over tv, using a prop to be a dick and sticking his tongue out like a fool.

Like @transponster said, I think it was more awkward than anything. I definitely don't think she's on drugs or having a manic episode. I just think she's a 20 year old KID who is trying so hard to shake her Disney image that she's going over the top and making bad choices.

But holy shit, if some of the things I did when I was a 20 year old dumbass (which I was), people would be saying the same kind of stuff.

I voted who cares. I used to really like Miley, but I am having a hard time defending her choices as of lately. I feel badly for people who have literally spent their whole lives in front of a camera. I can't imagine being under the microscope and judged constantly. If people cared less about the lives of celebrities, I think things would be a lot different.

I definitely don't think drugs or mental illness caused this. Not all weird shit that people do is caused by drug abuse or mental illness... wtf. She's trying to shed her Hannah Montana image by acting over the line "edgy" to prove that she's an adult and not a Disney actress anymore. I think her performance was ridiculous. I agree 100% with @ILoveRedVino . I think she was trying too hard to get attention/publicity and it came across as weird and pervy. But whatevs... she's getting the attention she wanted.

Her solo performance was racist. Her "duet" was gross on both parts. I like the song, but Robin took part in the same behavior (I am 100% sure this was a rehearsed act). And no one is bringing up that point at all in the media.

I don't think that "Blurred Lines" is part of rape culture. I think he is singing about a love interest in playing hard to get (the lyrics include lines about how she grabs him, etc).

I think Miley wants attention and she got it.

Just coming into add, that while while the statement expresses my disdain for people not passing the same judgement on Robin Thick when his song and video are just as provocative and raunchy as her actions. I don't feel that it is about rape, so I should have edited that from my quote. I do think that the degree to which he sexualizes women is disgusting and because of that, I don't care that she touched his d1ck. The media response is sexist.

Also, could someone tell me what she did that was racist? I was so busy looking for the raunch that I missed it.

Oh, and my quote is from a sexologist. I think the song could be interpreted as rape hy some.

So after doing some research, I realized that Miley was mimicking the moves from the unrated video version of blurred lines. Complete with the foam finger, so do what you will with that. I did not watch Miley's solo performance because I was told it was super weird and she looked like and alien and aliens scare me. I will now watch her solo performance to see what it was.

If you watch the blurred lines unrated video, you will see it. The video is literally topless girls walking around and there are some weird props and stuff.

Also, as a side note I just realized this was the song everyone was talking about it, and I could never focus on the lyrics because the Hey Hey Hey bit made me think of Fat Albert and it makes me giggle, so I never paid attention.
