E reader vs. Paper book

I wanted to make a poll here, but they must have changed things because I don't see where to do it so if someone can enlighten me, that'd be great!

Basically, I was wondering if you read more on an e reader these days, or more paper books? I used to use my Nook a lot more but lately I seem to be gravitating more toward paper books.

Re: E reader vs. Paper book

  • The poll option is in the drop down arrow next to "new discussion" but I haven't used it yet.

I go back and forth. Lately, I've been reading paper books, but really it just depends on which version I can get my hands on quicker.

Lately its been more on my kindle. Mainly just like @dmlk413 says because of nursing.
  • I read e-reader more, but I do prefer paper when its something i'd like to mark easily (like a text book or cookbook).

I feel like I read more on my kindle because I don't focus on the physical amount of pages I've read. If I get through half a book on paperback, I feel like I need to get something done around the house or I've read a lot and should take a break, whereas on my kindle I read until I'm ready to finish, not because i feel obligated to be productive lol
  • I use my kindle more. It was easier and smaller then lugging books with me on deployments so I basically cant live without it now.

  • I absolutely read long books on my Nook though. Holding A Breath of Snow and Ashes hurts my hands!

    What does "these days" mean?
    image
  • On a yearly average, I read vastly more e-books. Probably 90%.

However, in the last two months I've read primarily physical books because I've borrowed titles from friends, been traveling a lot, and hit up the annual local used book sale.

There are a few books I want to buy for my boyfriend so that I can read them later. However, I stick to shorter works, because I'd rather pay for the digital version for the long ones!

(The 930 pages of Shantaram weighed a ton in my purse during my commute!)

  • I read paper more only because of availability.  I am a big library user, and most of what I check out is only available in paper format.

  • I've never read an e-book. My husband got me to try once, but I can't really get into it. I love a paper book.

  • Paper. I love the look, feel, smell, tangible-ness (sorry, I know it's not a word) of the physical book in my hand.
  • I read almost exclusively on my Nook. I prop it up next to me in bed and read while lying on my side OR I use it on the elliptical/treadmill at the gym. And I carry it in my purse with me so I can read wherever I go. I don't really miss paper books at all.

  • I'd say mine is probably 50/50. I do love using the library and I have a stack of books from many various used books sales over the years. In general I actually try to rotate between a library book (either paper or overdrive), a paper book I own, and then something on my kindle. That being said recently I've read a lot more paper because I've needed more library books to fulfill SuBC tasks.

  • I think I honestly prefer paper books, but ever since DS was born, it's more like 50% Kindle/iBook and 50% paper. Like @fabk and @dmlk413 said, it's just easier while nursing. It is impossible for me to hold him and a book at the same time, but I can prop the Kindle or my phone on my legs or next to me and it only takes 1 finger to turn the page.

  • At this point, I find myself reading paper books a lot more than using my Nook, just because I can usually get my hands on them faster.  I have access to 2 different pretty large library systems but neither of them has a ton of e-books and I don't tend to buy books (electronic or paper) so it's whichever I can get through the libraries faster.

  • I read like 99% paper. DH got me the HP e-books for my birthday about six months ago though. When I do my reread it'll be on the Kindle.

I have so many e-books though that I want to read. DH reads the GOT series on it. I also have all three HG books and TBH. I just feel like I'll miss paper if I try to read on the Kindle.

  • Paper books.  E-Readers are convenient, but there is just something about physically turning the pages.  And I love the smell of books, new and old.  (Besides, my kids are always stealing the iPad so I have no choice but to read paper books these days)

  • Depends on WHERE I'm reading. If I'm at home, I'm reading paper books. If I'm on the go, I'm reading on my phone.
I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

  • I have a Nook Color but do most of my reading with paperback or hardcopy books.  There's just something about the feel of a book, the look of a book, even the smell of a book, that my Nook can't replace.

  • I read probably 90% of my books on my iPhone or my Nook. It's just so much easier for me. I only read paper books when I can't get a digital version.

  • I've had my kindle for a few years and I use it mainly when I travel-maybe 4 or 5 weeks a year. The rest if the time paper.

  • I read on my nook 99% of the time. I also get most of my ebooks from the library, but they don't have all the books I want in ebook. They have the whole Sookie Stackhouse and BDB series except the last two. Why?!? Anyway, I think I will have to read those in paper format.

  • I used to be about 50/50.  My library has a good selection of ebooks, but lately the hold lists for paper copies has been shorter (guess the Overdrive word is finally getting out).

But if I buy a book, it's a paper copy.  The only ebooks I've ever bought are the interactive ones for my kids.  There's a Monster at the End of This Book is a forever favorite.

  • Paper more these days since I use my library for 90% of my books.  If there are Ebook deals, I will read them on my iPad.

  • Seems like a good mix! I have books that i own that are paper and I need to read (many of them oops) and even some on my Nook from my e reader craze, plus i am wanting to read some newer books and am using the library for those right now.
