Advice? Help?

My husband and I have been together five and a half years and we got married in June. We waited a few months but have recently decided to start trying to have a baby. I had started my period August 16th and when it came time to start my new pack of birth control pills the 25th I didn't. I am trying to learn the ovulation schedule and how it works and I think I am right in the time frame to get pregnant, but I know it's only my first month trying and it doesn't usually happen immediately. I started taking prenatal vitamins two weeks ago on top of my regular women's vitamins.

Do you think I have good chances this month? Any advice on how to conceive? Anything I shouldn't eat or drink? Thank you all so much!

"I can do all things, through Christ who gives me strength."

  • I would suggest reading the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

    good luck!

  • If you would like to learn about your body and when it is ovulating, I would suggest you check out the Fertility Friend website. Basically, you have to take your temperature every day when you wake up, mat the same time, using a basal body temperature thermometer. It Charting your temperatures and cervical mucus (which you will learn about on fertility friend)is the only re real way to know when and if you ovulate. It isn't like what people say, that we ovulate 14 days before the period. Anyways, Fertiluty Friend will teach you what you need to know about that. Once you know when you are ovulating, you will see the signs before hand and can plan your sex so that it is in your fertile windiwow. As for this month, nobody here will be able to tell you. The only way to know would be by diagnosing your chart.

  • Sponge is right. But in the meantime, just have fun and don't worry about anything for a couple months! If you're "late" take a home pg test. If + smile and celebrate. If - wait a week for period or retest. Repeat until (+), period or 4 weeks late and call doc. Good luck!

  • I agree with cinco. Give yourself some time to just enjoy TTC,  and maybe youwill be lucky. Don't rush in to worrying about those things at first.

Yep- agree with this.  Have the sex with your husband on the regular, wait a few weeks and pee on a stick.  I generally ovulate on the 15 day of my cycle, but everybody is different.

  • In all seriousness -
I don't think you need to take a prenatal on top of a regular vitamin.
TCOYF is a great source of info on all things TTC related.
It takes time to regulate your periods after coming off of birth control.
You may not ovulate for weeks or months (depending on your body). You also may get KTFU right away.
Other than that, these ladies are right -- enjoy!

  • The mocking of some of the people on here is sad. Seriously, if you don't like my questions then don't "answer" and by schedule I simply meant, when ovulation typically occurs. I'm not stupid but I know nothing of pregnancy and was looking for some advice. Thank you to those of you who didn't mock me and gave me help!  :)

  • If you have no reason to suspect a problem then just have lots of sex and hopefully it'll happen easily for you.
Take a prenatal vitamin but you don't need to take both.
If you want more information read TCOYF or get on FertilityFriend and learn more about your body and cycle. Everyone's different you could be regular right away or it might take your body some time.

There are lots of girls here that have been trying for a while and have the right to be a bit snarky when new people come in just to ask if they are pg their first month trying.

  • The snark is legitimate I considered is, but am too depressed to be mean right now. No yelling at us old folks or you'll be kicked out. The thing is, you should probably google before asking 1st month questions or you'll sound dumb. We support educated questions. I and a couple others threw you a bone, but don't yell at my girls who didn't.

  • if you really want - you could do every other day sex. up to you.

i would just have sex regularly for the first month or two unless you really want to get more "scientific" about it. if you do, you will want to read TCOYF (as was suggested previously). it is definitely an interesting read if you like things like that.

  • FYI, it took me 10 months and extremely irregular cycles after stopping BCP to get pg. Take only your prenatal. It has everything you need. Sometimes too much of some of the vitamins can be a bad thing.

Definitely take SBSP advice and use Fertility Friend to chart, learn temping and monitoring your CM. It was the only way I knew when I ovulated due to long cycles.

    Good luck!

Don't take yourself so seriously. You will learn, if you stick around and want to be part of this community that the ladies here are sarcastic, funny, and blunt. You are new in this process take a chill pill have some sex see what works for you. If in a couple of months you want to start charting and such, do so. It's a big step, it can be stressful, you're going to go a little crazy probably so learn to laugh at yourself. That helped me a lot.
  • Please don't take two multivitamins a day. Some of the things in them should not be overdosed on. As other ladies have said. You're new at this, relax. Have sex. Pee on sticks to your hearts content. No one here can tell you when you may O. Example... I don't ovulate. Therefore, for me typical ovulation doesn't exist. Good luck.

  • @nberg89- I don't necessarily think the snark is uncalled for. The ladies here are absolutely wonderful, but are a certainly a close knit community that give support as they get.  Many of us have been trying for years without success, so please keep in mind that the snark you may receive comes from our frustrations and personal struggles (not that I want to speak for everyone).  I do find some "intro" posts to be a bit troublesome based on my own challenges. Please use FF and TCOYF and I wish you the best of luck. Fingers crossed your journey is short.

  • Seriously, pp have given good advice. It's absurd to ask us if we think you have a good chance this month. Statistically speaking, you have a 20% chance of getting pregnant any given month. But we have no idea what your cycles are like. For me, I have regular cycles - every 25-28 days. But I O late and have an extremely short LP. If so went by 14 day O, Id miss it every time. After you've done some googling and education for yourself, come back with more specific questions and you'll get better, more specific answers.

  • I'm sorry if I cam across as yelling, it's hard to tell with text versus actually hearing someone. I don't want to be a joke. It was honest questions. I'm definitely doing my reading. I just want to make sure I don't do anything damaging. I already have endometriosis and I develop cysts frequently, some small some large. My last cyst was 4 inches in diameter and had to be surgically removed. So I guess I'm nervous and a little scared. And of course the few friends I've mentioned me wanting to get pregnant to, have thought I was stupid because I'm "only 24." Anyway I do appreciate everyone's kind words and advice.

  • If you are already diagnosed with some fertility issues,  I think it is quite important to read fertility friend and start charting. It may help you to understand what is going on with your body and you won't be wondering if you're pregnant every month. Your cycles may vbe very diferent from 'normal'. Anyways, take some time to observe the board, learn a little and see if this is a group you would like to belong to.
