Re: Happy last Friday of August!! What are you reading?

  • I'm reading The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson and was enjoying it but it kind of took an odd turn and I'm not sure if I like it or not yet.

Also reading The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. I loved Woman in White, so my expectations are a little high. We'll see.

Books 49 & 50 for the year. I'd probably have read more this week but I got sucked into Downton Abbey.

  • Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett.  I'm not too far into it but I'm liking it so far.  It is for SuBC.
I started reading that in 2011, then got married and went on deployment and only brought my kindle. After moving twice, I finally found it again. I need to finish it because I remember it being pretty good and I couldnt put it down!

  • I'm still on Everlost by Neal Shusterman. I haven't had a lot of time to devote to it this week so I'm only about a chapter in. I'm hoping to make more progress with the long weekend. It will be #20 for the year.

  • I literally just finished The Sweet Potato Queens' Guide to Raising Children for Fun and Profit. I'm about to start The Woman in Black by Susan Hill.

  • Reading: Bared to You by Sylvia Day. It's pretty good, but not great.

Listening to: Hot Ice by Nora Roberts. It's typical NR, so it's exactly what I wanted....though I'm not loving the narrator's voice. Actually that's not true, I LOVE her voice most of the time, just not the way she does the male lead.
@AshletT121 I just picked up Bared to You from the library. I wanted some mindless steam. Does it qualify?

I just started Ready Player One and it's fantastic.

  • I'm 2 chapters away from finishing The Phantom of the Opera.  I like it enough, but its mostly just ok.   I started reading The Inconvenient Indian, it tackles really tough subject matter but the author has a way of poking fun at all sides but is serious at the same time.  Both are for SuBC and I've lost count on how many books I've read, somewhere over 100.

  • I'm reading BDB #4. I think it's supposed to be 47 but I don't think Goodreads updated after my last book. If it did and I just lost track, it's # 46 for the year.

  • I'm almost done with Code Name Verity and still loving it as heartbreaking as it is.

I've also got The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley going on my Kindle. I like it okay, but I'm not as into it as I was with Shadowy Horses and Mariana. This may have more to do with my mood than the story though.

  • I am reading Shooting Scars by Karina Halle, which is the second book in her Artistry series. I really like it so far. It will be 71/75 for the year.

  • I'm 1/3 of the way through GoT but the library is demanding it back so I'm stuck in suspense.
Also 1/4 into The Golem and the Jinni which I am loving too.

The same thing happened to me!  We moved into our current place a couple years ago and, unfortunately, it's an apartment so there is only room for ONE bookshelf.  It's filled three stacks out on each shelf and we still have boxes of books in our closet.  Anyway, I found the book this weekend and was so excited!

I wish I had been more ambitious when I made the challenge.

I'm still reading The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness and Murder. It's #19/25 for my goal for the year. I'm about 45% into it. It' s interesting.

I worked at that hospital in HR when this was all going on.  It was ... interesting.

  • I'm reading Too Good to Be True by Kristan Higgins. I'm over halfway through and hoping to finish before Sept. 1st so I can count it for August. It's alright so far.

Ditto @KrsCrp83 - An HP reread sounds amazing after all the discussion this week! I'm thinking of reading The Hunger Games too though, which would be my first time reading it.

  • I just started reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. I'm about three chapters into it and it will be book #6 of 20 for my Goodreads challenge. It's pretty good so far, but I'm afraid some of the vocab in this book (the business/finance jargon mostly) is kicking my a$$.
