  • Oh, I'm always so late to the party. I've mentioned this one here before, but know of no one who has read it. The Loop by Nicholas Evans (the same guy who wrote The Horse Whisperer) is my all-time favorite book. It's about the re-introduction of wolves into Montana, but really it's a big epic story about multiple generations of one family in a small town and forbidden love. I just adore it.
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • The Kindness of Strangers by Katrina Kittle has a disturbing subject matter but was really good.

A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines was a surprise favorite of mine in recent years. If you liked The Help or To Kill a Mockingbird I can see you liking this.

Truly Madly by Heather Webber is a super cute, silly romance series.

The Wind Up Bird Chronicles by Haruki Murakami was one of the strangest books I've ever read but it was outstanding and fascinating.

  • It's kind of like an adult version of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and a wonderful insight into how an autistic adult deals with everyday life.

Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri
Probably the best short story collection I've ever read.

Life and Death in Shanghai by Nien Cheng
I've recommended this one a few times around here, but it's an amazing memoir. It's by a Chinese woman who was imprisoned during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, and in spite of her personal tragedy, she's astonishingly candid and objective about the events that caused her imprisonment.

I haven't read it in quite a while.  My cat knocked it in the sink a while back and it got soaked.  It never recovered.  I'll bet I can do that Matchbook thing from Amazon and get a digital copy.

  • Just started getting into The Donut Shop Mystery series by Jessica Beck. The writing is just okay, I've actually noticed a lot of typos, which drive me crazy! But it's nice for a quick, fluffy read. They remind me a little of the Stephanie Plum series but not quite as clever.
