Happy last Friday of summer!! What are you reading?

Re: Happy last Friday of summer!! What are you reading?

  • @nocturnalintamacy - I really think that it is me not giving the book the attention that it really deserves.  This is a book that you really need to read and think about because there is so much underlying meanings to things in it.  I think that I have been reading too many "fluff" books lately and not enough ones that make you think.

Oh and I am really mad at the author for not knowing his time zones better.

    my read shelf:
Cathy (CathyL7910)'s book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Reading The Reliable Wife for Book Club...it is really weird!

Still reading The Host and I hope to start reading Me Before You early next week!!!!

  • I finished An Imperfect Witch by Debora Geary the other night and just downloaded Siege and Storm today.  I'm still going through UK HP3.

I'm listening to Mind Games right now.  I'm kind of surprised that there are 4 hours left in it because I thought it was going to wrap up at a specific point.  We're past that now but I have all sorts of thoughts about this.

    My favorite Cake Wreck ever.

  • I just started The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey.  Has anyone read it?  It was picked for my book club for the month.
    Married 6/10/09 in Bermuda.
  • Listening to Stardust by Neil Gaiman and reading The Gone Away World by Nick Harkaway.

Hoping on can finish The Gone Away World since (after I downloaded iOS7) my Overdrive ereader is not working correctly.

Looking forward to Halloween!  And the mini corn maze we are making in my backyard.  DH grew a really small plot of corn and we are going to try to make a tiny corn maze.  You'll make one turn and there will be a dead end... and that will be it.  :)

  • Add me to the list of those reading Eleanor & Park. It's great! It will be book number 51 for the year.

I began The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley on my kindle and am enjoying it so far.

I'm looking forward to the return of audiobooks when I return to work, lots of pumpkin pie, and next week we'll be going on our first date since baby was born- seeing Iron and Wine. :)

  • I'm listening to The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley (#44/60). I'm really enjoying the story, but I'm not so sure about the narrator.
I don't like the narrator for Winter Sea either. I got both the audio and ebook to try out the Whispersync thing and I really dislike something about her voice. It almost sounds condescending at times. Also, her Scottish accents sound like Scrooge McDuck to me and SMD =/= sexy. I stopped to read something else, but I'll be returning to the ebook, not the audio version.

@RevJen I thought so too!  You would have thought that was the plot climax, but nope.  There's more.

I think this is going to be a great discussion book. I finished it yesterday.

  • I'm still reading Lover At Last and listening to The Host.  LAL is due back to the library on Monday so I have to finish it this weekend.

My original answer for what I'm looking forward to for fall would be pie but since I'm on a calorie budget for a health thing at work, there likely won't be much pie for me this year.  So I will say going to an orchard with the kids sometime next month.

I pretty much hate fall.  It starts getting colder out but not all the time.  So you never know what to wear.  And getting darker out earlier sucks too.

  • I'm reading Surrender to Sultry and listening to The Handmaid's Tale. I'm sad that there will be no more Sultry to look forward to I finish *sniffle*. The Handmaid's Tale is equal parts disturbing/horrifying and fascinating. I had to take a break and re-listen to The Raven Boys on my drive home last night because THT was giving me so much anxiety. It's making me think a lot about how life could change in an instant and how quickly something totally bizarre could become the norm.

Fall things I'm looking forward to:
Halloween! We have been all over the Halloween crafts and decorating in our house already.
Crisp, cool weather, walking through campus with the leaves turning colors and snuggling up in cozy sweaters, apple cider and hot tea, which I only seem to drink in the fall and winter.
Going to the local orchard and picking pumpkins and zucchini and apples.
Vegas Valley Book Festival in November.

  • Not a thing.  I am still in a fog from Siege and Storm and I don't want to read anything that is not a continuation of that story.

  • I'm reading A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers. So far I really like it! I'm about 35% in. It is only 15/50 for the year. I am WAY behind on my reading goal this year. I blame it on having a baby, even though there isn't really a good excuse.

I really like fall as well. In fact, I can't think of anything I am not looking forward to. I am looking especially forward to cold weather and an excuse to wear warm clothes. I am also looking forward to long Saturdays on the couch watching football and drinking Pumpkin flavored beer :)

  • Im still working on War of the Worlds. Hopefully this weekend I will have some time to finish it. Im also reading The Great Hunt, but do not expect to finish it before the end of the month. Hopefully I can read a book DH gave me, for my not on my TBR list challenge, before this month is up.

  • The sea of Tranquility. Love it! Its just #6 of 25 for the year.

  • I'm reading The Cuckoo's Calling for my IRL book club discussion this weekend. It's #49 for the year.

Fall is normally not my favorite but THIS fall puts me less than 9 months from graduation which means DH and I can finally start TTC. :D
