Decisions being made in the Flamingo household (long)

After much discussion and soul-searching, Mr. Flamingo and I made the decision late last week to stop TTC and pursue adoption.

We are going to take a break from baby-related things for a few months and then hopefully start the process in early 2014. We are also planning a move around March and don't want to be in the midst of a home study until after we move. In the meantime we are going to do some research, save money as much as possible, and just enjoy being married. We are also planning on using BC in the meantime to avoid repeating the cycle of pg/loss while in the adoption process. We aren't saying never to bio children, but for the foreseeable future it is off the table. We have also both struggled with depression as a result of our 3T issues and need some time to grieve our losses and get used to not TTC anymore.

We are most likely going to pursue domestic infant adoption, but are keeping an open mind to other possibilities.

I know the road ahead is likely long and will come with it's own bumps and setbacks, but for now I am relieved. I always dreamed of adopting someday, and although it's coming about it a different way than I imagined it would, I am still excited for what's ahead.

I love this board and can't imagine leaving. I hope to stick around and chat and offer support where I can.

  • It's a really hard decision. And it's weird making a decision that makes you heartbroken, right? Don't feel guilty about being relieved and sad all at omce. I imagine you'll even grieve some more when your sweet baby comes home with you. It's not how you planned it to be and so it is difficult to let a dream slip back. I wish you lots of love and luck on your journey, and I would love you to keep in touch or come back to share your story when it's best for you. I see you sometimes on the other board, and so hopefully I get to see you there some more.
