Halloween!

I know I'm 6 weeks early, but I just picked up the kid's costume at BRU so I've got it on the brain.  What are costume plans for you/your SO/your offspring this year?  Do you try to do themes?

The kid is being Mickey Mouse, as he is currently beyond obsessed with all things Mickey Mouse Club House.  I almost considered doing a Mickey theme for his birthday this year, even after doing it last year.  That's how obsessed he is.

Re: Halloween!

  • I'm torn about dressing the Little Dudes in anything. Its a week night and they'll be asleep by 8. Part of me is like "I have to get costumes bc its their first" and part of me is like "they dont know the difference, just get them cute halloween pjs" - Did everyone else do costumes? I'm also cheap.

It's tough because you don't want to waste the $, but you want to get the pictures for their "first" everything, am I right?  :)

We managed to snag a sleepsack Batman costume over the summer for his 1st Halloween when he was 3 weeks old.  Try Old Navy.  That's where we got his costume last year.  They always have coupons and sales and onesie type costumes for the babes.

ETA: they have batman and superman long sleeved onesies!  So cute!

  • Last year we did a family costume.  I was a copy, DH was a robber, and DS was a bag of money (yellow sleepsack with a money symbol and one of his hats with play money taped to it) he was also a teddy bear for some pictures.

This year DS is going to be Super Grover 2.0... I'm making it myself and scared out of my mind because I have to do most of it without a pattern.  He's also going to be a monkey for school (my mom got it for him). I LOVE halloween costumes for kids so I've been looking forward to this for weeks already and agonizing over what he would be.

Thats exactly why I'm torn. I feel like I need to do something for the list of "firsts"

They actually have batman and superman outfits but I think they might have outgrown it. These are super cute! I wish they had Batman and Robin or two that went together. This is a good possibility though.

  • Emma just decided on Minnie Mouse last night.  She was between that and the "blue princess" aka Cinderella.  We picked up this one last night on Zulily.  It glows in the dark, which almost sent Emma into a tailspin of excitement.  I'm excited.  We were limiting to disney characters since we're going to a Halloween party down in Disney World and want the costume to do double duty.  For her first Halloween, we picked up basically a glorified set of PJs that had a hood from a consignment sale.  It was a ladybug.

  • Jack is currently obsessed with all forms of transportation (trucks, tractors, buses, planes and motorcycles) but I'm not feeling very creative.

I found a worn-once lion costume on one of the local FB yard sale boards because I'm too cheap to pay for a costume that he might not even wear.  I'll most likely have a newborn at this point so I'm not going out.  Mr. D might take him to the neighbor's house but J goes to bed at 7:30 anyway.    Wasn't sure if daycare was going to have them wear costumes either.

I'd like to dress him up to at least get a picture but now I'm not sure he will put on the headpiece so the whole thing might be a bust.

  • Kernal make those boys some costumes. :)

So my kids have two costumes. Because we are doing a Halloween bike ride and I need something warmer for that and for regular Halloween another and because I love Halloween.

So J is going to be rosie the riveter and M evil knievel for the bike ride.

For regular Halloween they are going as a league if their own because m is baseball obsessed.

JenD I can totally loan you m's SEPTA bus driver uniform. But it was totally easy to make. I just bought navy sweater and pants and traced the septa logo on felt and sewed it on.

  • We dressed Brooks as Hamlet for his first Hallowen. It was hysterical. This year he's going as Don Quixote.

  • Halloween has never been my favorite holiday, but now that I have a little one, I'm trying to get into the spirit. One of the baby's many nicknames at the moment is Bumblebee, so I'm thinking that's what she'll be for Halloween. DH and I don't really do costumes, but I'm thinking we can dress up the dog as a flower so that Little B has a buddy for photos :-)

  • When we were in the hospital, we were encouraged to and did kangaroo care with Mikey. He loved it so much we started to call him "Joey." So, I think he will be a kangaroo.

  • DD is being The Little Mermaid- scored the costume at a consignment shop for $12- it was a discontinued one that I was only able to find prior to that on ebay for $100.  As for DS, he will be the Sebastian to her Ariel- got that one for free from a mom in a FB group I joined...hadn't seen that one for less than $40. So about $140 worth of costume for $12 grand total.  Now to figure out the dogs...

On a side note, DD originally wanted to wear her Alice in Wonderland dress (got that for $10 at a clearance sale earlier this year), and I was kinda glad when she changed that one because I figured it would be easier to find mermaid stuff than Alice stuff for the boy and dogs.  Fast forward to yesterday and I saw in Petsmart they had the Chesire Cat and TweedleDee and TweedleDum costumes for dogs!  Darn it!

  • Hey all! I can't post from work with the new format so I've been MIA.
T1 decided he's too cool for a costume this year. T2 has decided for the third year in a row he will be going as "Halloween Jonathan" which is no costume and just a themed shirt. And T3 is being Belle because we both love her and I already bought it to use for dress up. This is my least favorite holiday

  • I gave in to peer pressure. Zulily had baby scrubs. I had "Dr. Andrew" and "Dr. Colin" sewn on them (in hindsight I should have done Dr. Dorian and Dr. Turk since they're green and blue) I might even draw the CHOP logo on them with fabric pen. And if I can score those baby stethoscopes then even better.

Why couldn't we?! We'd get an extra wearing out of the costumes if we did a GTG with the kids.
