I've never gotten one before.  Now that I'm KU, I think I'll be getting one.  I'm not sure.  I'll ask my OB about it at my next appointment if she thinks I should.  I'm not due until April and that's after flu season. I don't know.
I chose not to get a flu shot while I was pregnant.  Audrey was born in June and in the hospital they offered one to me.  I was like "Am I getting last year's virus or this years?"  Even the nurse said it was funny to ask since it wasn't flu season.  Your doctor will recommend it but it's your choice.

  • I voted SS too.  I have had them in the past but DH and I haven't talked about getting them this year.  We should probably talk about this since last year I got the flu then he got it then I got it again.  Yup...I got it twice last year...

  • I've never gotten the flu shot before ever, and I do have compromised immune system but I've never gotten the flu.  But being pregnant this year...I'm going to suck and it up and do it once the first trimester is over.

I also chose not to get one while pregnant.

  • I get one every year for free at the hospital where I work. I get it for myself, but I also get it for my patients because I am a NICU nurse, and I think it would be irresponsible of me not to get the shot.

  • I've gotten it every year for the last 7 years and will continue to get it for the rest of my life. No delusions of anything other than getting the flu can seriously mess me up and I'd rather not experience that if I can help it.

  • I'm one of those that *always* gets sick the day after any shot so unless it is truly manadatoy then I will never get the flu shot. It also helps that I have a strong immune system and haven't had the flu in over 15 years.

DH worked as a public school teacher in an elementary school for 3 years, never got a flu shot (wasn't mandatory), and he never got the flu. Since he was an instrumental teacher he was constantly having to touch hands, clean instruments where their mouths had been etc.... but luckily stayed healthy!
  • We always get one. DH is a Paramedic, DD is in preschool, and DS is so little still. Plus, we see my older Grandparent's at least once a week.

  • I don't go out of my way to get it, but if I'm in the right place at the right time I get it. DH and they kids gets it every year.
  • I'll get one.  I'm firmly convinced that it's helped me not get as sick.  Several years ago, I wound up with colds on top of the flu and I was sick for months.  Like from November through to January and then part of February.  The following year, I was sick all of December and January.

If I can do something to alleviate that somewhat, I'll do it.

  • I'm pro-vax....

BUT, the only year that my daughter and I got flu shots was the year we both got MISERABLY sick a few weeks later.  (my husband did not get the shot, nor the plague that we suffered.)  So it really turned me off of them.

I am well aware that the flu shot did not cause our illness....  but it's hard to get motivated to get a shot when I remember that illness so clearly right after the flu shots.  Silly, hey?

Anyway, that was in 2009.....  we haven't been really sick since!  (not even with colds...  we do hydrogen peroxide in our ears at the first signs of a cold then the symptoms disappear the next day.)

  • I haven't in years, but I might this year because where I work people are getting sick every week and it's making me paranoid as hell.

  • If I'm brave enough and the company offers them for free again, yes, I'll get one.

  • It's mandatory for hospital staff and I'm not thrilled about getting it. I've never gotten it before. I've seen several patients in my career with atypical Guillaine Barre that has been attributed to the flu shot. I'm not saying I'd be thrilled to get the flu (though I never have had it) but being paralyzed from the eyelids down is pretty high on my list of things I've seen happen to patients that I never want to happen to me.
That said, if they came out with a better vaccine that was more than 60% effective, I'd be much happier about getting it.

  • I get them for free at work and our kids do too. Since baby is too young this year to get her own, the rest of us are getting one to avoid some risk. Last year I forgot to have us get them (me pregnant too) and both DH & toddler got the flu. I got a non-flu, flu-like virus at the same time. It sucked.
We don't vaccinate the kids for everything, but so far it's just not worth the risk of avoiding shots completely.

@morrocojade - I've never heard the hydrogen peroxide idea. Do you pour some in your ear? Or just swipe a Qtip with some on it in your ear?

  • They ended up saying that I had to get one since I work in the hospital even though I don't work for the hospital, so I got one. Fingers crossed that I have no ill effects from it.

Just lie down on your side. Dribble 3 or 4 drops in one ear. Let it bubble. It feels weird. When it fizzles out , put a tissue on that ear. Roll over and repeat in other ear.

Do this 3 or 4 times a day for a couple of days when you first get that "feeling". It works for head colds, drippy noses, sneezing, sore throats, coughs. But not for flus or tummy bugs. And do it ASAP. It doesn't work wonders for a full blown cold.

My daughter was a little freaked by it at first, but loves how well it works. Me too! I hate colds!!

I had never heard of doing this for colds.  I've done it for when I feel like I'm getting an ear infection and it works great!

Curious!  I got over my fear of the Neti-pot last year & I was very impressed with it.  I'll keep this in mind too!

I started getting the flu shot when I was pregnant with Leah.  I've gotten it every year since.

My coworker's wife just got over the flu & she was laid up for a full week.  I'd rather avoid that if possible.
