“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to."
"I don't much care where –"
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go.”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
I also chose not to get one while pregnant.
DH worked as a public school teacher in an elementary school for 3 years, never got a flu shot (wasn't mandatory), and he never got the flu. Since he was an instrumental teacher he was constantly having to touch hands, clean instruments where their mouths had been etc.... but luckily stayed healthy!

BUT, the only year that my daughter and I got flu shots was the year we both got MISERABLY sick a few weeks later. (my husband did not get the shot, nor the plague that we suffered.) So it really turned me off of them.
I am well aware that the flu shot did not cause our illness.... but it's hard to get motivated to get a shot when I remember that illness so clearly right after the flu shots. Silly, hey?
Anyway, that was in 2009..... we haven't been really sick since! (not even with colds... we do hydrogen peroxide in our ears at the first signs of a cold then the symptoms disappear the next day.)
We don't vaccinate the kids for everything, but so far it's just not worth the risk of avoiding shots completely.

Just lie down on your side. Dribble 3 or 4 drops in one ear. Let it bubble. It feels weird. When it fizzles out , put a tissue on that ear. Roll over and repeat in other ear.
Do this 3 or 4 times a day for a couple of days when you first get that "feeling". It works for head colds, drippy noses, sneezing, sore throats, coughs. But not for flus or tummy bugs. And do it ASAP. It doesn't work wonders for a full blown cold.
My daughter was a little freaked by it at first, but loves how well it works. Me too! I hate colds!!
Curious! I got over my fear of the Neti-pot last year & I was very impressed with it. I'll keep this in mind too!
I started getting the flu shot when I was pregnant with Leah. I've gotten it every year since.
My coworker's wife just got over the flu & she was laid up for a full week. I'd rather avoid that if possible.
