Will's Birth Story (long)

Thanks again @bruinsbabe33 for being my labor buddy. You've been a great source of support and an amazing sounding board. I love you, lady, and I can't wait to meet your son!

Since I'm busy staring at this boy instead of resting, I figured I might as well share how he arrived while it's still fresh in my mind.

Wednesday while at work, I started feeling just generally tired, which has been the norm. On top of the exhaustion, I also had an uber sore lower back and had noticed an increase in cervical discharge. Sleeping that night was rough with the back pain and also because I felt like I had to pee almost every hour. I moved out to the couch at about 2am so as to not bother C and to perhaps get into a more comfortable position. That didn't happen.

I tossed, turned, and got up regularly until my alarm officially forced me up at 6:15. I got up, took a few steps and felt a huge gush. My water had broken! I was really anxious/excited about this since I had had no signs of labor and showed no progression in effacement or dilation, but knew that having your water break should kick start labor!

I got C up and we both showered and got in the car and headed to the hospital. I went to l&d and got into my room and was checked by my dr to make sure my water had indeed broken. The good news was that it had, bad news was that my cervix was still closed, and only 1cm dilated. She got me started on a pitocin drip to get the contractions going to hopefully increase dilation and thin things out. 8 hours of what I thought was pretty freaking intense labor and I find out my body still isn't reacting like it should.

At 6:30, my dr suggests we try cervidil to help thin out my cervix and hopefully get me dilated. The worst pain was during these 9 hours. At about 3:30am, I went to the bathroom and while I was in there, had a massive contraction which caused the cervidil to fallout. Whomp! Whomp!

I called the nurse who found my dr and we had a nice chat. We could start pitocin again and see if the combo of pit-cervidil-pit could get me to the point where my body would take over, or we would do a c-section ASAP.

Being utterly worn out by this point after almost 24 hours of what I assumed was labor, I decided that physically and mentally it would be best to go ahead with the section.

I entered the OR at 7:30am, got a spinal, and Will came into our life at 8:02. While it was not what I had pictured when I thought how the day would go, I'm glad how things ended up. He came safely, and I'm
Very lucky to have Dr's who helped me get to that point. We'll be in the hospital until at least sunday, and I know it's going to take me a bit longer to recover, but I'm just glad to have him in my arms.

Anywho, if you got this far, you deserve pictures!
