  • Ditto PP's - I haven't started yet, but I don't wait til last minute either. I don't celebrate Christmas, but H does, so that limits the amount of people I/we have to buy for to H, his son, his siblings, and his parents.

  • I make gifts (I kind of hate the obligation of gift giving. I know, I'm a cheap scrooge). I usually will have started making at least a few by now, but I'm really behind this year and haven't even decided what to make. Crapola.

It doesn't help my motivation that a lot of my bonus goes to buying Christmas gifts, and we don't get those until end of October.

  • I'm that jerk who celebrates xmas, but not the gift giving part. I've been anti-gifts for probably 8 years now. I don't give them or receive them. I think christmas is about spending time with each other, not buying you some useless trinket or something that's going to sit on a shelf or exchanging gifts of equal value blah blah blah. This just works better for me. DH does do gifts for his family though.  That's on him, haha. :-)  But I do love christmas and all it's decorating and awesomeness.

If your fudge recipe is anything near as simple as my great-grandmother's, it'll freeze great. I should start making small batches now and save myself the insanity of churning out 4 double-batches in a weekend (which is what I did last year)!

With DH's extended and immediate family we do gift exchanges so we have to wait until they draw names.

I usually have ideas in my head or have started making some gifts by now but I haven't done anything yet.

I want to do this. I'm not a huge gift giver either, I would always prefer to just spend time with family. And sometimes the stress of gifts really overshadows that. But, I do love to knit and it can be affordable so... there it is :)

This is definitely a part of it.  It was hard the first 2-3 years bc everyone wanted an explanation and would still want to give a gift even if they weren't receiving. Now, no one attempts anything other than my parents. And, well, there's nothing I can do about that, lol.

Ha! That's what I usually do! I get so sick of fudge in that weekend that I can't even deal. I bet my standard just chocolate fudge would freeze fine, but I'm unsure about the more complex flavors. I might try that!

  • The only person I really shop for is MH. The past few years we(I) just make cookies for family because they always give the old "You don't have to buy me anything" line and I just don't have the patience or creativity to think of anything. I don't know what I'll get H, probably something cheap since we're trying to save money.

Yes, I do! I also do sea glass candy and truffles. We have a huge family, and it would just be impossible to buy for everyone so we try to bring a gourmet candy tray to each side of the family and a smaller version to friends of the families. I do candy cane white chocolate fudge, chocolate, chocolate peanut butter, chocolate white chocolate raspberry, and usually a new type I want to try. This year I might do pumpkin. For truffles I do raspberry jam, mocha, dark chocolate, cookie dough, and peanut butter.
  • Oh yeah. And we're hosting the annual "friends Christmas party" this year. Prob 50+ peeps. So I WILL do stockings for the kids, we'll have a Santa (parents buy the kids a gift and secretly put it in santos bag) and we might do a gift exchange for the adults. I'll start planning all THAT stuff very soon

  • I usually start around mid-October. I have quite a few people I buy for, so I like to spread it out. Plus I like to find good deals, so I browse clearance racks and watch weekly sales until I find what I want to get each person. I like to feel like I really searched for the perfect gifts for each person. I love Christmas. :)

  • I love Christmas! I've started shopping, but don't have much. We do presents for immediate family and one set of my cousins, who spend Christmas day at my parent's house. For extended family, we usually make something small. This year is going to be painted mini-loaf pans that I picked up from Michael's on Christmas clearance last year, with mini-cookies inside.
