SA Results - Awesome

Re: SA Results - Awesome

  • Speaking of not having the SA done at your OB/GYNs, I'm glad our doctor recommended we go to a bigger hospital to get the SA done. He basically said that 9 times out of 10 when they do the SA around here, it's screwed up and they end up having to repeat it. I'm really glad he was honest and told us that. Even though it means traveling over an hour to the hospital, at least we know the test will most likely be done right the first time!

It wasn't actually done at their office. They wrote the Rx and the results were sent to them, but DH actually had to take his sample to a local hospital (about my least favorite of the 4 hospitals we have nearby). My ob/gyn's office could only name that hospital that they knew still did them.

Hope everything goes well for your DH's tomorrow. Enjoy lunch afterward.

  • For your perspective our count was 2 million and we had less than 1% morph and like 15% motile.

  • Maybe your doctor uses a difference scale, but those number sound fantastic to me.  I was told that normal morphology was 4% (DH was 1%).

But there is nothing more horrible than answering the phone and getting bad news so I am sorry! It especially sucks when you are at work and have to try to act normal for the rest of the day!

But don't give up hope!  I always felt that since DH's sperm count was superhigh, it worked out mathmatically that his smaller percentage morph of a large sperm count was just as good as a higher percentage of a normal range number!

I'm going to ditto PPs because those numbers sounds good to me.
My DH's morph was 2% and we were told it wasn't a factor, which I do question but the normal reference we were given is 4%.

I do think there is 2 tests so the reference could be higher if you had a different test so it's worth following up. Good luck!

  • I found the paper! It says normal ranges based on WHO criteria:
Volume greater or equal to 1.5 ml
Sperm Count greater or equal to 15 million/ml
Sperm motility greater or equal to 40%
Morphology greater or equal to 4%

So based on your answers, Count: 450 mil, Motility: 40%, and Morph: 30%, I would only question the morph. The only reason I'd question it is because that percentage is way higher then the range this paper shows. So I'd just want to make sure that number is correct that they gave you. Especially since the other two numbers they gave are in the normal range.

  • Also, our results have way more then just those three things you listed (motility grade, viscosity, agglutination, round cells). So I would just ask if you can get the full report and maybe bring it to a urologist to get a clear explanation.

I'm definitely following up to get more information, other than the motility, the other numbers seem incredibly good. I'm starting to get annoyed that she made me feel like it wasn't great, but here everything now is pointing toward the results being nothing to be upset about at all.

Thanks for all the input, ladies. I'm sorry for each of you that even needs to know this information, but glad you're here to help me get it all straight.

  • I'm sorry you got disappointing news. :(
  • I'm sorry that the sa results were not ideal but as pps and you mentioned,  it's still do-able. Don't lose hope. An RE can definitely work with that. Good luck!
