H and I are going to this wedding in New Orleans in two weeks. We already spent $1500 just for airfare and hotel. The couple lives in Philly and chose to have a destination wedding.

My question is: We usually give a nice cash gift (usually $250 ), but since we've already shelled out a good chunk just to get there, would a smaller gift such as a nice frame or something smaller from their registry be appropriate? I know technically we don't have to give anything, but I would feel really weird not giving any sort of gift. Thoughts?

I agree a good small registry gift is perfectly fine. Or even a gift card so when they get home they can purchase something from their registry since they have to travel back with the gifts.

I agree w/ Ashley, I would do a gift card for where they registered. That way they, and you don't have to travel with a gift. Or you could order something and send it directly to their house. Even a smaller cash gift would be fine, to me $250 is extremely generous!

Agree with small registry gift. H and I flew out to CA for my cousin's wedding last summer (we live in OH). It was also our honeymoon (we had to postpone to be able to attend their wedding) so we gave them $100. And the thank you card was tucked into the Christmas card envelope 6 months later.

What days are you going to be there? We fly in the 20th for a business trip for DH.

I would say it depends how close you are to them. I stood up in a destination wedding. I gave them $100. I might try to get a discount on something on their registry, so then you don't need to spend as much.

I'm jealous because I am still 4-5 hours away and this is the closest any of you ladies will be to me!
