  • That'll be nice!

We went out to dinner for our 1st anniversary.  We had big plans of traveling to London, but my husband ended up going earlier in the year for work.  Oh well - another time!

  • RI is on my list of places to visit. In the fall too!

We went to the Kentucky Derby as our anniversary trip. (it was a few weeks early). And I made a special dinner for us on our actual anniversary.

  • I think a small quite weekend can be the best celebration :)

We only went to the Kentucky Derby because it was on both of our bucket lists and it had the right timing.

I live in the DC metro area although neither H or I commute to DC. Best of both worlds YAY! - well except for COL but can't win  them all right?  I am originally from Texas only lived outside the state for a year and a half now.

  • We just went to dinner for our 1st anniversary, too. We did save the top layer of our cake, which was nice! It still tasted delicious!

  • We did dinner for both our first and second anniversary. For our first it was the first time we left our ds for a period of time. This year we dropped him and ran...just kidding.

We also saved our cake top! Yummy!

I also now want cake...hmmm must bake!!
  • I sometimes feel like a slacker in celebrating our anniversary, because some couples I know do trips or buy each other big gifts, and all we did was dinner. really I don't think it matters, but sometimes I feel like it does.

new friend - did you have a big or small wedding party?
I only had 3 bridesmaids (my 2 sisters and my best friend) and DH had 2 groomsmen. (yes, it was lopsided). and we had 1 flower girl (my niece) and 1 ring bearer (my nephew). We included other family members in other ways, too. My step brothers children handed out programs and bubbles for after.

Sidebar - The instructor of the supplemental instruction I go to for my A&P class in getting married next May (she picked a great month I told her!) and I loooove talking wedding talk wit her! We both laughed about how there's this idea that wedding planning is fun, when in reality it is stressful and not fun.

  • I'm from Philly!  We just bought a house in Center City!
  • It really doesn't matter jlq. I think it's an important date and a day to be remembered but it doesn't matter how as long as it is important to you.

H and I don't really do big gifts for the anniversary. Something small that goes with the theme. Although H hates my b-day being close to Christmas so I think he would prefer a big anniversary gift and no b-day gift lol! The trips we have taken are more trips on our list so we incorporate it as one. Both trips would have most likely happened even if we didn't have a may anniversary. We just added a special touch to each trip for our anniversary if that makes sense.

  • I missed the where are you from question!
We live in Pennsylvania, near Williamsport. I'm not quite sure what part of PA they consider that...Central PA?

Aggie - That's what I was trying to say. I don't really think it matters how you celebrate the day, but there's still times when I feel like we aren't doing "enough" to celebrate it. Considering how the divorce rate is so high these days, marriage really is something to be celebrated. I like keeping things simple, though, and I'm terrible at gift giving, so I'm glad we don't do gifts. (well, we do, but just really little ones!)

  • I am from Buffalo, NY but live in Rochester now.

I agree JLQ and Aggie. I don't think it matters how big or small you celebrate it as long as you do celebrate it.

  • Don't worry, jlq.  We go out to dinner.  I'm not even sure we buy cards.  Definitely no gifts.  We do really want to go to London so we thought we'd incorporate that into our anniversary.  It didn't work out that way that year and now we're poor because houses eat your brain.

Keeping a marriage happy and good is about the people in it, not what everyone else is doing.  I often get frustrated when people are like "How many date nights do you guys do?"  Yeah, we don't "do" date nights.  It's just not us.  I let it get to me for awhile because I thought I was "doing marriage wrong," but we're not.  We do it our way.  It works.
