DH and I are going to host a Halloween party this year.  I'm going to put out some appetizers but I'm a snacker when I've been drinking.  I plan on putting out mostly normal stuff but I would like some help with low sodium choices.  I think a lot of you know that I've been put on an extremely limited Low-So diet.  It's been frustrating socially so I'm just trying to make things a bit easier on myself.  Seriously, I hate going out to eat now, and I've always been a foodie.

Anyway, I found this website and she has a ton of Low-So recipes. http://www.sodiumgirl.com/category/meal/appetizers/ If you guys can take a minute to peek at it, and tell me what you think people would actually eat, I would REALLY appreciate the help.  I want to make something that I can munch on, but also something others will eat so it doesn't go to waste.

I'm thinking I'll for sure do the pigs in a blanket but make them look like mummies.

Thanks ladies!

  • The broccoli dip looks good.  This isn't on her list, but you could also do guac and use more lime instead of salt.  And what about just fruits and veggies?  Those two things are always gone at our parties.  I make this amazing fruit dip with whipped marshmallow, whipped cream cheese and cool whip.  The bowl is always licked clean by the end of the night.

Oh, and I love the idea of the mummy pigs in a blanket!

  • I would totally go for the hummus recipe that's on there. You could serve that with Stacey's "Naked" pita chips. I'm pretty sure those are salt free.

  • I didn't see an easy link to this, but it was in one of her posts

http://www.sodiumgirl.com/low-sodium-potstickers/ they sound like a lot of work, but I love potstickers!

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to look!  Great suggestions.

@ystaalenburg, I totally stole the mummy idea off of pinterest.  And I never thought of subbing salt for lime, that would probably work in a lot of recipes...

@Nic12184, I'll have to see if those are low-so.  That would be awesome I really miss crackers and chips a lot!!  Otherwise, I could just use carrots for myself.

@xxjen015, those potstickers do look amazing.  It's a Friday night party so I wonder if I could make the wraps the night before..  Sometimes stuff like that can get soggy in the fridge overnight.

  • Sorry, I just looked at the Stacey's website. Apparently, the "Naked" ones have just sea salt on them...no other flavors. I thought that those were salt free too... : (

You could always just cut up some pitas and toast them yourself...that way, you can control what goes on them.

  • You could also use the unsalted pretzel thins.  They are just about as thin as chips and I use them a lot for dips.

  • I love carrots and red bell peppers with hummus. That would help you avoid the salt issue altogether.  You could also stuff phyllo cups with hummus (or goat cheese or whatever) as a "crispy" option.
