s/o Seasonal Decorating - Inflatables

What's the general consensus on the inflatable lawn decorations?  DH always wants to get some but (IMO) I find them really tacky.

I'm talking about these things:

Re: s/o Seasonal Decorating - Inflatables

  • Oh man, I can't stand those.  There are some in my neighborhood, particularly one house about three streets down and I want to cut holes in all of them.  He has like SIX in his yard.  SIX!!!

  • Woah!!!  That is a bit... much.

No offense to anyone who likes them but I don't care for them.  And, they look like sad discarded condoms when they are deflated.

  • No thank you. I mean, sometimes one can be cute, but they are so huge.   The only way I would do one is if Wes REALLY wanted one.  I would try to redirect him first though.

  • There's a house by me who's yard is COVERED in them.  COVERED.  It's horrible.

  • I should take a picture of the apartment near my work.  I feel bad for the other people living there.  It's a old house converted into apartments, so each of them have their own entrances and pathways.  The one unit has their entire lawn portion covered in inflatables and decorations.  It gets worse every year.

Usually the lawn is decked out in garden gnomes (::shudders::), but they take Christmas to a whole new level.

  • If I were a meaner person, I'd take a pin to them.

    But I'm not.

    And also, karma and such.

  • Nope, don't like them at all.  I have a friend who last year told me to come over because she was so proud of the decorating that her husband did.  So, I did, and the yard was covered in inflatables and the lights strung up were crazy mismatched.  Large bulbed colors next to small bulbed white and blue icicle lights.
It was pretty tacky looking, but she was so proud of her husband so I told it was awesome.
But then, I am the house with just simple candles in the window.

  • I don't like these either. Tacky. To me, it just seems like the lazy man's way to decorate for the holidays. I also don't like crazy mismatched lights.

  • I can't stand them (sorry for those who like them)

We hate them so much in our neighborhood- there is an inflatable penguin that gets "passed" around when each neighbor least expects it. You wake up and there's this damn inflatable on your lawn. Generally int he middle of August or something LOL

  • I'm not a big fan.

There is a gas station on my way to work that has a ton of them. They currently have the Halloween inflatables up, but they will also do Thanksgiving and Christmas. Unluckily (for me), the intersection with the gas station on it has a really really long red light. So, I have to look at them every day for several minutes. FWP for sure.

  • I HATE them. So tacky. There's a house a few streets away that has a HUGE one. Like, literally as tall as their 2 story house. Hideous.

  • The director of my museum used to put them up for Christmas every year all over the museum.  They were transportation related, and he had them on top of exhibit cases and out front.  The Deputy Director and Development Director wanted to murder him.  True story.  Thankfully, those "disappeared" before my tenure here.  *shudders*

  • I also don't care for them, BUT my daycare lady has a big pumpkin/scarecrow one out in her front yard, and Ally is OBSESSED with it.  I can't help but love anything that makes my toddler giggle, clap and exclaim in delight.

  • Yup, we went to the zoo halloween thing this weekend and they were everywhere. Izey was OBSESSED. He couldn't believe it. "It's a big pumpkin!" "it's a big bat!" "Dat  motorcycle is moving!" and on and on forever.

I'd never ever put one in our yard but I did love seeing him exclaim over them.

  • My MIL puts up like 10. Plus lights and other holiday decor. This is for both Halloween and Christmas.
SIL is 11 and has loved them every year.

    I hate them.

  • Nope. This is how I feel about them.

  • I have a limit. I think that one or two can be ok but when you get over that it is just too much. That goes for most decorations though. Unless it is done well or done so bad it is awesome then just edit your decorations.
    Anniversary
  • Meh. I wouldn't ever put one up at home, but I don't really mind if the Christmas crazy vomits onto other people's front yards. My boys are fascinated with them though.
