NBR: Regional Food

Where are you from?  If I were to go visit you, what type of food would I just have to try.

Re: NBR: Regional Food

  • Southern Maryland.
You'd have to go to a crab house and have some Maryland blue crabs!
    So yummy.
But if picking a crab is not your thing, then crab cakes would be acceptable.

  • Oh, and maybe boardwalk fries with vinegar and Old Bay.

  • Southern Delaware.

Crabcakes, Steamed Crabs, Softshell Crab Sandwich. Scrapple. Not a food but DogfishHead beer is made here and is really tasty. Thrasher's French Fries. Nicola Pizza.

Suburb of Cleveland. Pierogies - and not the frozen Mrs. T's.  With butter, sauteed onions and sour cream.  Mmmm.

Not that they are exclusive to Cleveland. But I learned recently that they are regional.

I have that trouble here in MA with the lobsters.  I can't pick my lobster.  I know that makes me a hypocrite considering I do eat meat, but I just can't do it.  I would love to try good crab cakes though.

I love Dogfishhead.  I love their Punkin.  I think it's the best pumpkin beer I've had.

  • I don't know if this is specific to Delaware or not, but you would have to try a real Italian sub/hoagie. When we lived in SC, I missed them so much! Capriotti's here in DE makes the best one around, IMO.

I went to Maryland for a wedding a couple years ago and had fresh crab dip-delicious!

Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

  • Minnesota. You'd have to try porchetta (fennel and garlic spiced pork), poticia (walnut and honey dessert), and pasties (meat and vegetable pies)

  • NYC - I'm not sure we really have anything that's ours, my favorite thing is the ability to get ANYTHING you're craving somewhere.
Pizza? Everything bagel with cream cheese and lox?

Most people I know that move away usually complain that breads(/pizza doughs) aren't as good as NYC.

  • I live in RI, so you wouldn't have to go far!
My favorite local "only in RI" foods are pizza strips and coffee milk.  Oh!  And Allie's donuts, but only the ones with the colored jimmies.
  • I'm in Northern California.

I maintain that we have some of the best Mexican food in the country.

Also, though I'm not a fuge fan, people here eat an ungodly amount of sushi, lol.

I don't know what Las Vegas has that you can't get elsewhere.  I guess we do have restaurants by famous chefs from all over the world. And In N Out. We have In N Out.

I only use maple syrup on special occasions because it's so damn expensive.  Pancake syrup just isn't even in the same ball park.
