  So the MC gets better?  I put this book down because I couldn't stand the MC in the beginning.  That and all of the exclamation points, I felt like I was being yelled at.  .

  Yay, I got so excited when I saw on Goodreads yesterday that you were reading this so I could have someone else's to gush about this series with. I read all of the novellas earlier this year and just started Crown of Midnight.
  
  @lauren620, I get why you put it down. I thought the beginning was really weak. I probably wouldn't have continued either had I not followed SJM's blog for a long time and wanted to support her, but I was so glad I stuck with it because when it got good, I was obsessed.

  I have a signed copy.  SJM was super nice in person and I wanted to like it, but I really didn't like the MC.  Since you both say it was really good, I might give it another try.

  @j*&p* I usually dislike series novellas because they either A. don't add anything to the story or B. they add too much and are referenced in the next book. If you don't read the novella first, it's very confusing. The ToG novella I read yesterday was great! It was like a mini-novel that added to character development and had its own plot. THIS is what series novellas should all be. I'm hesitant to pickup book 2, because it's such a long wait for book 3.
