Hello!
I'm just moving over from TK where I lurked for awhile and never really posted, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I graduated in the spring and unfortunately the paperwork is taking a lot longer than expected (yay for schooling in the States and wanting to work in Canada) so I'm currently working odd jobs until everything comes through and I can get started in my field.
H was laid-off several weeks after I graduated and recently got a job so we're back to having two incomes again. Luckily we were able to keep our wedding under budget. We've been lucky that we don't have any cc debit but I have some very pretty student loans that we'll have to start paying off within the next month or so. We're currently holding onto all the money we got at the wedding and the money we saved by being under budget but once my paperwork comes through all but the money we're going to keep for e-savings is going to be thrown at my loans.
I feel like I lucked out with H because when I mentioned using the money from our wedding this way he told me that's what he had been think about doing too.
I'm looking forward to chatting and learning a lot from you!
Re: Hello
That's awesome that you and H are both on the same page! We are taking a slower approach to our student loans, but that works for us. I am trying to get ahead with an extra payment before the real first due date in Dec, and am going for the ten year plan even though it's going to cut into our savings goals.
@ducktale, the e-board is the etiquette board on TK. I posted there a fair bit too, but not nearly enough to be considered a "reg" or attract much notice. It's very entertaining and I found it helpful, but it could also get quite heated (mostly towards people with awful ideas). I stuck around a bit after the wedding but then just started losing interest in wedding talk.
It is nice to be on a board where people disagree respectfully! Some ideas were awful over there, but I pitied the people who were just innocently clueless. I knew zip about weddings, but lurked first so never got flamed. This is the only board on TN I've gotten into though; the rest are either less relevant for me or dead.
They were banning people for "rudeness"? Just may have to go peak on over there...
I post most most often on the Bump, and those boards are notorious for snarkiness. I love it, I think it's entertaining. Sometimes people ask very stupid questions (ex: I just got done with my period yesterday but now I'm having cramping, could I be pregnant?) so they get snarky responses. And sometimes (often) newbies misinterpret straightforward facts as being blunt/rude. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I don't think I'd have stuck around very long if it were all just boring fluff answers.
However I do appreciate the respectfulness of this board.
Yikes. I think I would have been banned.
That sounds like a similar tone. People give good advice but it's not what posters want to hear.
The mods on the bump only ban people who violate the rules, which are pretty specific. The regs know how to toe the line, it's the newbs who get all upset and don't understand the rules as well, they're the ones who cross the line and get banned.
It's fun over there. A good mix of information and entertainment. And a lot of good gifs.
I find it slightly amusing that I found this board and got my loan repayment request in the same day. It's nice to know exactly what I owe, I had an idea before but not an exact amount.
I've been on the e-boards recently, but mostly when I'm bored. The drama that goes on there is better than a soap opera. But I've been finding my interest is quickly diminishing.
@hoffse that's what GBCK means? I was able to figure out most of the abbreviations that people used but that one I hadn't been able to piece together.
@Ductale do people actually ask about cramping if its a day after their period... I may need to head over to the bump now. It sounds like it could be a pretty interesting place.
I had figured out one or two on my own and then someone made a post asking for an explanation about some of the common acronyms, that list helped me figure out more too. I always had an 'aha' moment when I figured out a new one.
Are there any unusual ones on the nest?
@Belthil People ask "I have x symptoms, am I pregnant?" All the time and then give ridiculous explanations why they think that. Here's one from yesterday:

I don't even think that one got snarky, on the TTGP board they go crazy for posts like that.

Though I will say it makes for some good entertainment.
