@jackiback That is an adorable story, minus the mouse in your house part.  I am imagining the mouse stuffing his cheeks full of pancake, totally ignoring you while you're creeping up on him.

  • @jackiback Did you really start snapping necks or do you just mean that in a funny kind of way? Or do you mean snap their necks with those old school mouse traps? I'm just having a vision of you and Shawn chasing mice in your house.

Oh my god. I would pay actual big money to see my big, lumbering, klutz of a husband chasing around a teeny mouse.

No, we're just going to get some kill traps.

LOL! Ok.  I got confused, which isn't difficult for me.

You could always get a cat...don't the boys need a pet?

We always had cats growing up because we lived in the country and they were amazing mousers.

We live right next to a park here and the mice are crazy. We catch one almost every week, then shaun takes them to work (which is about 60 miles away) and sets them free behind his building. So we know it's not the same mice unless they REALLY like our house.

I'm not really grossed out by them and don't think we have a mouse problem, but they are getting a little bold for my liking.

I don't want to offend any cat lovers, but no. no. no.

Litter boxes are just too much for me. I can't do it.

  • Speaking of cats, I was watching The Duggars last night (try not to judge too hard please) and the oldest son and his wife were talking about a new kitten they had just gotten. Aparently their old cat was an indoor cat for awhile before they decided to make her an outdoor one. They lost their cat and just assumed it found a home with a neighbor. I yelled at the tv...seriously why even bother getting a pet if you aren't going to care when it runs away or something happens to it? I'd be heartbroken if I had a pet that ran away like that.
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

PART 1: Next weekend is our 16th anniversary. I'm surprising my wife with a weekend trip to NYC where we will finally be legally married. We're staying in Brooklyn. PART 2: We're staying in Brooklyn bc we are planning to move there in April and want to check out the neighborhoods. I'm a bit nervous about the move. I mean, I don't even own a coat. We're definitely "city people" but I just can't wrap my head around living there and how extremely different life will be. This feels way different than when we decided to move to California.
    Congratulations!

  • 1. I have all three cats on the couch with me today, even DH's cat who I swear hates me.  I think they missed me while I was gone.

    2. Pretty sure the soles of my feet are bruised from all the DC walking I did the past 3 days.  Ouchie!

    3. I got to see Abraham Lincoln's funeral shroud up close (as in, I could have touched it if I didn't have better training) as well as shoes that were worn during the 1963 March on Washington where the heels had completely disintegrated, items promoting suffrage, Thomas Jefferson's burlap campaign flag, and other campaign paraphernalia that will go on exhibit next year at SI's Museum of American History.  Because I've got connections, yo.  It. Was. AWESOME!!!

    4. I interviewed one of the last remaining Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) on Tuesday.  She was incredible.  Her uniform is in the Air and Space Museum, too, because she is awesome.

I've had a great week, and I love my job!!

You guys. This one is pretty embarrassing.

This morning, Izey was wandering around, up way too early and I was working on NaNo. He comes to me, cracking up and says, "mom! A mouse is eating a pancake!"

    "Huh?"

"There's a little mouse eating a pancake in the kitchen!"

He was literally holding his belly he was laughing so hard.

    Went into the kitchen.

Yup. A little mouse sitting on the counter, on a plate eating a pancake that no one had eaten at BFD last night. I clapped and yelled and got closer and closer. HE WOULD NOT LEAVE! He loved pancakes more than anything I've ever seen.

Finally we got Shaun to come in and get really close and yell then take the pancake away.

Obviously our live traps aren't working. I've always felt bad killing cute little mice so we usually leave a live trap under the sink and one beside the oven, but we decided this morning that it's time to start snapping their sweet little necks.
I read this while still half asleep.  I was picturing Shaun with mouse in hand and literally breaking its little neck. :(

  • When I was a 8 in Wisconsin, my dad moved out to AZ a few months before we followed.  While he was gone my mom made me finish off the mice when the traps didn't quite do the job.

    With a shovel.

  • I've been getting some really amazing unexpected opportunities at my job lately, and another may be coming up.  This has never happened before in the history of my job.  My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for almost two years.  I would have to leave my current position if I got pregnant because of the type of work I do.  I want to hold off on getting pregnant for the time being to see where these opportunities can take me.  I'm between Dr's right now, so we aren't doing any treatments and it will be a month or two at least before we start.  I'm feeling a little guilty about not being excited to get pregnant at the moment.

  • I'm about to adding the number of kids I'm watching.
So far it's two school aged children for before and after care and occasionally their older sister when they off school. The amount of days they have off will be a lot pretty soon with the holidays.
Also one 14 month old just learned how to walk.  She's cute, but teething and has really bad separation anxiety.  Mornings are a nightmare with her.
And I'm about to start watching a 10 month old.
I really don't want to, but we need the money.
And I judge the crap out of the parents of the school aged kids.  Seriously judge.
Like, what makes them deserve to be a parent when I'm having so much trouble? That's my confession.  I'm a horrible person.  I'm helping to raise kids and I'm not enjoying it at all.
Those two are absolute terrors though.
