  • Wish I would be able to do au natural, but I have a feeling that when the time comes, I will be like, give me the drugs...  Ha ha  I saw my sister right after she was given an epidural and she was super cool..

  • OMG I am so bad with pain!! Epidural all the way! I give big kudoos to the ladies who can do it naturally because I know I won't be able to.

  • @islandmonkey8 I feel that same way.  I would like to think that I could start out naturally, but I'm not the least bit against drugs.

Although, when they gave me the suppository to help pass the m/c they warned it would be full blown contractions and labor.  I didn't take any pain meds, because I was dumb and thought I wanted to be able to feel what was going on inside.  When the pain meds finally kicked in I had already passed it and had been having contractions for hours.  So it gave me the slightest hope that I would be able to get through it med free.  I have a pretty high pain tolerance though.

  • My goal is to go as natural as I can for as long as I can't. That said, I am not opposed to drugs. I think I would try other pain drugs before an epi though.

  • Ditto PPs; I would try natural, but am not at all opposed to drugs.  I just hope if I do decide I want them, it's not too late!  My sister had an epidural with her first, but her second happened so quickly she didn't have time for one.  She said she's glad she experienced it both ways and is proud that she was able to do it naturally, but it's not something she'd wanna do again.

This is me exactly.  I would love to do natural, but if I am in a lot of pain, I'll be all about the drugs!

  • If I get the chance to birth, my goal is to go med-free but if I can't handle it, I'll try drugs. I'd like to try stuff other than epi first, but I'm not opposed to epi. My reasoning is silly though... I get kidney stones and they're horrible pain... I've been told they're as bad or worse than birth so my reasons for going med free are just to see which is worse.... Kidney stones or birth lol

T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.

  • I would love to do natural, but I have a pretty strong feeling I won't.

@brij2006 I had to take medication twice for mine. Second time I took the first before bed and didn't take anything since I had to be up in 4 hours to take it again. About half an hour before the next pill I woke up crying from the pain.

  • While I think it'd be great to birth naturally I'm all about getting an epi and drugs. I see no reason to put myself through that kind of pain when I don't have to.

  • I've always wanted to go natural. Even before DH and I actively started trying. When my SIL gave birth to my nephew they gave her all sorts of stuff and she was so out of it afterwards. I don't want to be all drugged up. Maybe an epi if I really couldn't take it. I have a high tolerance for pain, so I'm hoping it'll be enough.

  • Med-free if possible.

It appeals to me for many reasons; one of which is curiosity. I have had horrendous menstrual cramps for most of my life. I want to see how much worse the contraction part of childbirth could possibly be.

Just an FYI. I got a pain med before my epi to take the edge off and it made me feel weird. I wouldn't do it again if there's a next time. I would go natural until I couldn't take it, then straight to an epi.

BR I did it med-free with DS and I plan to do it again if I get the chance. For me, it was intense and uncomfortable, but being able to move through contractions made it manageable. I spent the worst part of it in the car so by the time I was at the hospital it was almost time to push so i didn't really have a choice anyways, but I never really felt like I needed it. I took it one contraction at a time and it really helped me. With all that said, I was open to an epi and don't judge those who choose that route.

The I only thing I had on my birth plan was to get an epidural and have a healthy baby. Unfortunately, it took 3 hours and till I was 9 cm dilated to get one and I had B about an hour later. I think I could have done the whole thing med free.

Since it was taking so long, they did administer another drug through my iv. I do not recommend that. It made me loopy and I could not focus. An epidural still allows you to be mentally present without feeling all of the pain.

  • I agree with MRads and Sgautschi. I would prefer natural, but if I couldn't handle it, I would definitely prefer an epidural over IV pain meds. I wouldn't want to feel more sick or out of it on the meds during actual labor. After it was all said and done might be another story, ;)
