NBR: Favorite Musical?

2»

Re: NBR: Favorite Musical?

  • So difficult to choose.

Live:  Jesus Christ Superstar, Rent, Dream Girls, Sweet Charity, A Chorus Line

Movie:  Guys and Dolls, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, On the Town, Bye, Bye, Birdie, Oliver

(I'm not including Disney animated musicals, they deserve their own category.)

  • Rent.

I also really love Phantom and Miss Saigon.

I've never actually seen Guys & Dolls, but I really love the music from it.

    I've never seen Les Mis.
  • Newsies!!!!  I've seen it twice on stage.  Once during it's pre-Broadway trial run in NJ & once on Broadway shortly after it opened.  The stage production is SOOOO much better than the movie!

And they are finally doing a national tour!  :)

Favorite musical that I was in is definitely Joseph!  "Potifer was counting scheckles.  In his den below the bedroom.  When he heard a mightly ruckus clattering above him."

  • Cats was the first musical I ever saw, and I adored it.  I had the soundtrack and listened to it until  the tape broke.

I was really lucky my hs did children's plays instead of musicals.  I loved being in theater, but can't sing on key to save my life.

  • Don't make me choose!  Anything Rodgers & Hammerstein, Calamity Jane, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Fiddler, Guys and Dolls, Annie, etc, etc, etc.  I could go on for days.  My grandfather was a theatre professor for a long time so I grew up with musicals.

Seriously? I've been hoping they would; I want to see this so badly! I'm going to go Google some details, thanks!

  • I cannot choose among RENT, Wicked, and Les Mis.

@SusieBW You've never seen Les Mis!?  We must remedy this ASAP. Let's go RIGHTNOW.

  • Overall: Phantom...I actually listened to my tapes so much they ended up over a halfstep sharp (which I discovered once the CDs were released and I tried to play them simultaneously). I used to be so obsessed I actually bought some bootleg versions (Anthony Warlow made an AMAZING Phantom)....and I stumped the tour guide when we took a tour of the Pantages Theater :p (I just wanted to know if the Phantom still wore two different colored contact lenses like Michael Crawford used to...)

Other than that yes many of what all of you have said: Camelot, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, RENT, Avenue Q, Wicked, Into the Woods, West Side Story, Cats

I'm so excited...for Christmas I got H and I tickets to see Wicked (neither of us have seen it live yet!!)
  • Phantom and Les Mis lovers:  Have you seen the 25th anniversary performances of both?

A local theater just did it this fall, and we were going to go (it's DH's favorite), but it somehow didn't work out.  Next time a touring company comes around, I promise I will go.
  • @RevJen - I haven't...admittedly my serious obsession with Phantom ended in the late 90s (obviously pre-25th anniversary) however I just added the Blu-Ray to my X-mas list...here's hoping Santa wasn't done with me yet :)

I'm fortunate.  I got to see it on Broadway and then go behind the scenes to see where they handled the turntable controls.  I met the actor playing Valjean but I don't remember his name.  :o(  I was kind of starstruck at the time.

You should totally go and see this if you can.
