Re: Let's do this again... Tell your TTC story
Three months after my last pill, I'd gained 17 lbs, grown some rockstar mustache hair, developed acne and still hadn't a period. My BFF is a nurse and told me to google PCOS. I did and the description was spot on.
I called my OB and had testing done but everything actually came back normal. They told me to give it some more time.
A few months later, they put me on Clomid. I still wasn't ovulating, so Clomid was hopefully going to fix that. We did four Clomid cycles and I still wasn't ovulating.
Then I was referred to the RE. He switched up the meds and I did Femara plus a trigger shot. I ovulated!! No BFP, but ovulating felt like a success. We tried the same three more times... BFN each time.
In April 2012, we did Femara and the trigger but also an IUI. I got pregnant. Baby Vino was born too early, but he was a pretty perfect baby.
We then took a break since my body had gone through pregnancy and labor/delivery.
We started again a few months later and did four IUIs. Nothing, again.
This past spring, we moved to IVF. I did get pregnant but miscarried at 6.5 weeks.
Our frozen embryo transfer (using embryos that we created last spring) was in September and it didn't work.
We will give it one more shot in a few months.
FET - transferred two embryos (boy and girl) - Nov 2014 - BFP!
We decided to start trying in December '12 and have been trying since. I am hypothyroid and my levels finally got within range in September '13, so we will be waiting a while longer to start any other testing.
I've been more consistent with temping the last few months/cycles and it helps to make me feel like I'm actually doing something. I like knowing what my body is doing and when AF is coming.

For about a year after that I had no cycles on my own at all and had to keep taking Provera to start my periods. I just was not ovulating on my own at all.
I saw the RE in February of 2012 and DH and I both had testing done. His came back normal and mine came back again showing I had PCOS. We decided to do a round of Clomid/IUI. This ended up being cancelled because I wasn't responding to the Clomid.
Later that year, my dose of Metformin was increased to 1500 mg. After this, I finally started having cycles on my own. But they were really long.
In Jan 2013, I started acupuncture. This is what has really made a difference for me. I started having shorter cycles. The longer I went, the shorter and more regular my cycles became and I even started ovulating around CD 19 (which for me was amazing!).
We tried on our own for a while and then decided to do a Femara/IUI round. When they did the bloodwork for the round, they found I also had a slightly off FSH level. I responded to the Femara and ovulated, but got a BFN.
The cycle after this (August 2013), we got a surprise natural BFP.

Fast forward to August 2012. Started the first round of Clomid at 50mg and Merformin. No response. September 100mg- no response. October 150mg- no response.
Mr and I have run the gamut of testing and all is clear, minus that pesky PCOS diagnosis.
Did one last cycle of Clomid with the first RE in January- 150 with a trigger. I ovulated- yay! But my uterine lining was so thin nothing would have stuck.
Switched REs (the main office was out of town) and did 3 femara/follistim iuis. 2 chemicals and 2 rounds of mild ohss later and we are on a small break until January for 2 more tries with this protocol until we seriously look into ivf. Found another RE that seems to get pcos a bit more and am hopeful. Adding a daily baby aspirin to help with the lining.

H and I were married in May of 2012, at 31 (H) and 33. First we were just having fun, more NNT than TTC. Lots of ST, etc. I already knew I had seemingly typical cycles, and I quickly decided I wanted to learn more about how this whole thing works, so after a month or two, I started temping/charting. I found that the months I was consistently temping, I could confirm O, and so we continued on TTC for the next year, plus some.
I was ready to head to the RE around the 1 year mark, but H still wasn't convinced we needed to. I explained to him what I had learned (most couples within a year, etc.) and then I let it marinate in his head. I'd bring it up every now and then, but tried very hard not to push it. Within a few months, he was offering to go get a S/A done to see if he was 'the problem.' I'm fairly certain that if I had pushed at all, I'd still be waiting.
Instead, we headed to the RE just one week before my 35th birthday. In the month since then, he's done his S/A, I've had an HSG, Saline Sono, and lots of bloodwork, and found that I will need a hysteroscopy to remove (what they are still unsure is) a polyp, and they will also do a laparoscopy at the same time.
We're looking at January, due to scheduling difficulties.
Once that is all done, word on the street is we'll try an IUI.
Fun times ahead!!
After 2 years of TTC, lots of tests, and a Hysteroscopy/Laparoscopy to remove several polyps,

My history is all in my siggy, but I'll repeat it anyway. I was diagnosed with PCOS back in 2005 (after not having a period for 10 months). I was put on the pill and stayed on until November 2011 when we decided to TTC. I saw my OB-GYN almost immediately to get the ball rolling, since I had a history of being anovulatory. She made me wait two 60-90 day cycles (which were both ended with provera) before further testing. We did some preliminary testing and tried one round of clomid with her... But I had no response.
In June 2012, we went to see an RE. She ran some more tests and had us try another clomid and then a femara cycle. I didn't respond to either. At that point, we decided to move on to injectables and IUI. Our first round was a mess. I'm what you would consider a "poor responder". So that cycle was essentially a bust. From there, we decided to optimize our chances (and the bit of insurance IF med coverage we had left) and go right for IVF. I was a very slow responder and ended up with only one developed follicle. They cancelled my ivf, and down-graded us to IUI. That was a BFN.
We decided to give ivf one more shot with a new protocol... I also integrated acupuncture. That protocol worked like a charm. I had 2 day 3 embryos transferred and 4 frozen. We got our BFP on 5/10/13, and I'm due in less than 6 weeks. I feel extremely fortunate that it worked on our "first" round of ivf (well, the first where we actually made it to retrieval anyway).

I met DH and started dating during the summer of 1999. We were married January 2009, and I went off BC and started TTC July 2010. I had two very long cycles (60+ days) before I requested some answers from my doctor in January 2010 (and started charting). I went through all the testing and my doctor didn't give me any answers.
In May 2011 I went to see a naturopath who took one look at my results, my cycles and me and told me I definetly had all the characteristics of PCOS. We started a vitamin regime and acupuncture, and were just about to start homeopathics to regulate my cycle when I got my BFP in June 2011. I had ovulated naturally on CD89. DS was born February 2012.
AF returned November 2012 at 9 months PP with me still nursing 4-5x day. My cycles were much more normal at 30-40days long. I didn't chart, only tracked since we were still TTA until he was 1.5yr.
We decided to NNT in July 2013 in case it took us another year or more to concieve. We were shocked and thrilled to discover I was pregnant at the end of July and due April 4, 2014.
At our 12 week u/s we discovered a missed miscarriage.
At 13.5 weeks, on Sept 25, I had a D&C to end the pregnancy because it was not happening naturally.
Three weeks later I was told that the pregnancy was a partial molar pregnancy, which is a non-viable pregnancy and the placenta is essenitally a tumour. I now had to be monitored weekly to make sure my beta hCg returned to zero naturally otherwise I would be put on chemo to ensure all of the tumour was gone/killed off. The risk being it can spread and result in cancer. I was told I would need to TTA for up to a year depending on the results of my betas.
I got a natural negative beta Nov 28, 2013! Two months post-d&c.
Dec 9 I saw my specialist. She was thrilled with my numbers and has indicated she would like to see three negative betas and then we can TTC again. I have one scheduled for later this month, one for mid-late January and then we are NNT on our vacation in Mexico for our anni in January.
No matter what we will require very close follow-up if/when I do get pregnant again, as well as after I deliver because there is always a risk of the GTD (disease caused by the molar) returning or of having another partial molar or molar.

Bear with me as some of the dates and details have gotten muddled and forgotten over the years... I'll try to be brief but no promises because 1) I'm wordy and 2) After 5 years, your story gets kinda long!
Got off bcp (Seasonique) in October 2008. Started TTC 2 months later in Dec. I never ovulated, didn't have cycles. I started spotting after like 6 months (no O though) and that lasted for over a month. Had to take a month of bcp to get the bleeding to stop. Same thing happened again. Started getting progesterone shots every 60-90 days or so because I hate remembering to take pills and shots were just easier. I finally developed a reaction to the shots after a couple years. NOT fun... softball sized itchy, scaly lumps, fever, etc. Then I switched to Provera.
Somewhere in there she diagnosed me with PCOS with really, my only symptom being anovulation, then in 2010 my OBGYN sent me for an HSG. Most painful thing EVER. Turns out both of my tubes were completely blocked by polyps. Automatic referral to the RE (who I totally love.. I'd totally hang out with her!) Had laparoscopic surgery in Dec 2010 to unblock tubes and treat endo. Surgery was a piece of cake.
Even after all that, I still didn't ovulate or have cycles. I'm broken. We did a cycle of Clomid with IUI.. started at 50mg and didn't respond so they upped me to 100mg in the same cycle. I ovulated but didn't get pregnant. We waited awhile and did another Clomid cycle, starting at 100mg. I didn't respond but did have horrible side effects, the worst of which was visual disturbances (wavy lines and flashes). They said STOP THE CLOMID and never take it again. The cycle was over before we had a chance because I didn't ovulate and had to take Provera to bring on AF, as usual.
We waited awhile then moved to our first injectables cycle (bravelle with ovidrel trigger). Everything went swimmingly except it didnt' work and I didn't get KU. At our "what the heck" meeting with the RE, she said there was no reason I didn't get pregnant medically, it just didn't work. Said we could do 1 more injects cycle but after that she'd recommend moving to IVF simply because of the costs. We agree. So we have one injects cycle left.
All that said, the past two cycles, I have O'ed on my own. Guys, that's two cycles IN A ROW.. that hasn't happened for me since 2003/2004! Crazy! I'm in the middle of a cycle now, just hoping that I ovulate. It'd be amazing to actually get to have a shot at this like a normal couple for a little while. We'll see.
So that's where we are now. I know a lot of people hate hearing stuff like what I'm about to say, but this is MY story and MY way of coping so you get to hear it
The only thing that has gotten me through all this is my faith in Jesus Christ. Knowing that my future and the future of our yet-to-be children is in His hands gives me peace and hope. Of course I don't like IF and TTTC, and I have cried many many tears, cried out to Him, and I still have bitter moments, but it all comes back to the fact that I trust God with my future. Plain and simple. I don't pretend to know why he hasn't let me and some of the incredible women I know have children yet, or why he lets those in less than optimal situations have 5 of them, but I know that he feels my pain and cries with me. God owes me nothing. I owe him everything and more. If I never have a child, as long as God is glorified and his purposes are accomplished, then I'm ok with it. I know He will take care of me and the husband.
So there ya go. There's my story in a nutshell. If you can call it a nutshell lol... Told ya, I'm wordy and a 5 year story takes awhile...
In Christ alone my hope is found. He is my LIGHT, my STRENGTH, and my SONG!
T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.
This is a wonderful thread IRV! Thank you so much for starting it.
July 2012 I had missed a BC pill while we were on vacation, and we had gotten pregnant a month before our wedding. About a week later I started bleeding heavily, and we had found out that we miscarried 3 weeks before our wedding.
October 2012 We decided for me to get off BC because I had been on it for 9 years, and it was really messing with my body and my mind. We were planning to begin NFP to prevent until we were ready to TTC a year or 2 later.
January 2013 I had only had 1 normal cycle since getting off BC, and saw my Dr about it. She recommended TCOYF and moving to an OB that specializes in fertility (we don't have RE's in our area). This was when we started NNT.
April 2013 We started full on TTC because I was having cycles that needed ended with Provera and I wasn't ovulating. This was when we started with the IF OB, and I was diagnosed with PCOS.
Summer of 2013 I started trying the PCOS diet, and ovulated on my own after 72 days. Our timing was perfect, but resulted in a BFN.
Sept 2013 we did a round with 50mg of Clomid. That resulted in a BFP, and we lost the baby in November.
Right now we are TTA and taking charge of our finances so that we can move forward with more treatments (100% OOP), and to take some time to cope with the 2 losses. Our first loss was so close to our wedding that we never dealt with it. Just moved on and focused on the wedding.
