Bored...

I'm wishing I could go to bed but I have to stay up.  P is just not getting on his flight to come here.  It was delayed so he won't arrive until 11pm.  My MIL is out to dinner/Xmas party currently.  One of us has to stay here and one of us has to go pick up P.  I already mentioned to MIL that since she is out if she could just go to the airport on her way back and get him, it would be great.  But she said she'll see what time she gets done with her dinner.   If she's done earlier than 11 she was going to come home.  Sitting here waiting on her, I really would rather MIL go to the airport.  So far every time she has watched Lily at night, I come home to an awake and cranky baby because MIL can't get her back to sleep if she wakes up.  I've tried to point out that having the TV and a bunch of lights on wakes her up but honestly I don't think my MIL cares because she knows I'll put her to bed when I get home.  So long story there but I want her to go to the airport so if Lily does wake up I can put her back to sleep and also because I would really like to go to sleep right now.  Lily woke up a lot last night due to teething.

Would it be rude of me to text my MIL and ask her to pick up P from the airport so I can go to bed?  Or should I wait up for her to get home and ask her in person?  I've already asked but never really got a straight answer from her before she left.

But the main point of the thread, I'm bored waiting up.  Anyone else out there?

Re: Bored...

  • I am here. I would text her.
  • Text or call her and have her pick him up. I'm trying to keep my eyes open while waiting for the perfect time to out Abby in the crib. I tried once already and had to pick her up because she wasn't ready. DH is downstairs still grading papers. He got home really late because of an accident andhas been grading almost all night. It is hard having him here, but not here. Only 7 more school days until he is on winter break for 2 weeks. I'm going to try and put Abby down now.

  • I am here.  I am panicking. They had a meeting tonight and I felt like maybe I should go, but of course I didn't.  IDK if it would have changed anything. My job came up to be cut completely, and then it came up that if I keep my job, I would get a pay deduction.

I was feeling ok before. Now that I come on to my email, 4 or the 5 emails was about budgets...and I am the cut list twice.

    I am panicking hard core.
  • I am sorry Jen.
  • Sorry, I totally talked about myself.  I would text her and say that Lily is fussing, could you please pick P up. Say that you are worried that she might be coming down with something. No one wants to stay home with a cranky sick baby. Then when she wakes up in the morning fine, you can be soooooooo relieved.

  • @jjbmstinco - oh no!  I hope your job doesn't get cut!!!  T&Ps for you!

And I might just use that excuse.  She has been cranky and teething.  So it's not a complete lie.  :)

  • I can't afford a pay deduction! Who does that. I am willing to change my job in building.  IDK if I can go between two buildings.
  • A pay cut would be awful too.  What would you be changing your job to or for?  And crying baby.  Be back in bit.

  • So right now we have 5 counselors.
    1 at K-2
1 at 3-5- this is me
    1 at 6-8
    2 at 9-12

We work 5 more days than other staff members, but we have to have more credits for our MA.  So we get a stipend that is beyond our normal salary.  People are saying 2 things...

    1. Cut all stipend.  This would be about $300.00 of a pay deduction for me.
    2. Share one counselor K-5, between the 2 buildings.  They also suggested that we get rid of the middle school counselor and make one at the high school a .5.  Now, I would get the K-5 position because I have been there longer than the K-2 girl.  But I can't go between 2 buildings.  I haven't done it in the past but I heard it was a nightmare.

  • Yikes, that sounds like a nightmare.  Do you know why they are cutting pay/jobs?  Is it a funding issue?  I hope they can come up with another idea that works better for you.  If they can't, would you start looking for a different job?

  • I hope that everything works out ok, but I think in your case, traveling between buildings might be a good choice. You might have better people at the other building. In what scenario would you be going between two buildings?

  • Yes.  We lost some funding from the state. When we asked for more from the community they voted no.  Amendment 66, which told the state to give us more money, was also voted no.  We have to cut 1.1 mill in 2 years. 550,000 this year and 550, 000 next year.

If I went between buildings,  that means the T counselor would be let go, and I would do 50% at my school and 50% at the T school. IDK what the job entails to be honest.  I have heard that it was once like that and it didn't work at all.

I am not sure if I can stay honestly. There are a lot of factors like J already has a job and we have a house.  But I will say that I will look.

Its just hard because I would get hit in multiple ways.  Some suggestions are to reduce contract days...ok there goes some money.  Then I lose my stipend...there goes $300/month.  Then they want us to pay $100.00 for health insurance. So there goes $100 out of my paycheck.  So when we are in this crisis, my paycheck is hurt in 3 different ways, whereas people's paycheck won't be hurt that bad. To me that isn't fair.
  • I always feel that is unfair when certain people get cut, and others don't, especially when certain people don't, like the superintendents and principals for instance.

I'm really sorry, and most of all, I'm sorry for the kids. We never cut the education stuff, and kids need to be happy and mentally healthy before they learn.
