It took me a good two weeks to feel motivated enough to put up my work Christmas lights that I always decorate my desk with. Today, I finally mustered enough Christmas spirit to do it. I strung up my lights and got them the way I wanted them, and plugged them in - only to discover that my lights are broken.

DH and I are taking an exam this weekend to become certified beer judges. I'm totally excited for it, and really just want to close the door to my office and study the style guidelines that we need to know. I'm thinking that at least a little of that will have to happen today and tomorrow.

How do you do this? I feel like this is something that J and I would love to do.  How did you get involved?

We know a guy locally who's a judge and runs a study group for the exam. We signd up to be a part of it, so it was prettty easy for us. There's more information on the BJCP website, www.bjcp.org. They have a list of the dates/locations for scheduled exams.

  • I just tried looking for a Beetlejuice GIF of him saying "dead, dead, deadski.  Afterlife, kids." to post in a new thread about how dead this board is today.

  • My boss was being a jerk to me on the phone earlier today. I have been putting so much extra work in when I am there and she was trying to say that I messed up some paperwork that I don't even deal with and know nothing about. She kept on and on about it and being really sarcastic and rude and wouldn't let me try to explain at all that I didn't touch it. I finally just said "I am not going to let you speak to me this way. Goodbye." And hung up the phone.

And then sat there and freaked out because OMG what did I just do!?

But when I came into work she was very apologetic and realized her mistake and paid for my lunch. So then she wasn't a jerk anymore.

In the end, this is so full of win.  You for your gumption, and her for the apology and lunch.  Wow!

  • I got to the dining hall tonight for dinner and sat with students because no other faculty members were around and I didn't want to sit all alone. Pathetic.

The other office assistant was on the phone when a call came in. I was away from my desk talking with a student. When she got off the phone she proceeded to tell me in a nasty tone that she wasn't responsible to answer phones while I am away from my desk being social if she is on another call. I very nicely with a hint of snark told her that I am missing a lot of hearing in my right ear and some in my left and I couldn't hear the phone. She tried to be all nice and apologetic but I was a little pissed off. I have been there two weeks. She could try and be a little nicer.

  • Being pg & having a cold sux. I checked with my OB and I can take Sudafed so I have been doing that along with a saline solution at home but I am even more winded than usual. I just want this cold to go away.

My birthday gift from my parents this year was a new, pine wood bookcase. It's currently being stained so next weekend I get to finally have a home for my books currently sitting on the floor upstairs.

Also, I can't wait for the new year because I am getting a check for my unused vacation time. I have 17 days right now.

Ugh. I know how you feel. I had a cold for over a month last January when I was 7-8 months pg, and I don't take medicine, so I just had to let it run it's course. It was a long long month with lots of hot showers (for the steam).

Be careful about your blood pressure. My cold caused me to have high blood pressure which had me on bed rest for a week and my doctors keeping an eye on me for pre-eclampsia.

@sassypants527 - I didn't feel wow at the time! I was all "What did I just do? What. Did. I. Just. Do?" And then she apologized and I was happy dancing on the inside. I think it was just finally too much. She wouldn't let me explain and kept interrupting/talking over me.

I was pretty proud of myself. I wanted to yell but I didn't!

  • I had a pint of ice cream for dinner two different days this week. Eating my feelings, perhaps?

I also ate Easy Cheese for the first time in MANY years. My body is not thanking me for that one.

Try a neti-pot (warm salt water)!  I fought it for years... but finally tried it earlier this year with a bad cold & it was glorious!!!!!
  • Thanks Green-that's what I have been using (the saline solution). It helps for a while. I managed to sleep through the night last night without getting too congested. Today I am feeling even less congested after doing it this morning before work. Just took a couple tries to get use to using it :)

  • it's weird, no doubt, but it does help.  I was apprehensive about using it too.

  • I have yet to have a successful attempt at the neti pot.  I should say that I didn't feel relief, not that it didn't work.

  • When I got to court this morning (damn judge calling me in on casual friday), I had no quarters for the meter, so i just left it and crossed my fingers that I wouldn't get a ticket.  not only did the judge rule the way I wanted him to, but I didn't get a ticket.  Yay!
  • I will spare you the description of what my Neti pot has rinsed out of my sinuses during bad sinus infections. Let me just say that it was gross, especially its color.

Seriously - I was TERRIFED of the thing!  But I had such a bad cold, I was totally congested.  No air was going in or out through my nose.

I finally gave myself a pep talk & bought one.  There was a bit of a learning curve on making sure your head is at the right angle (and I was warned to not use a full packet of salt).  And it is weird having it flow out of the other side.  But seriously... when you blow your nose... the junk it gets rid of is amazing!

I was like Maria on top of that damn mountain when I was able to breathe right after using it!

  • Oh!  And this year, at the first sign of a cold, I'm busting it out!!!
