Re: Duck Dynasty...

  • Because, honestly it really bothers me that he cannot say how he feels about something. Freedom of speech??

  • I didn't even know about this until my FB and instagram literally blew up with the posts. I think it's sad that A&E did what they did. But everyone in the lime light is always treated so differently. I'm sure someone somewhere complained about it. Cause that is always how crap like this happens unfortunately.

So someone working in an office environment is free to voice anti-gay opinions and not expect HR to come down on them?

  • I honestly don't see a problem. He was asked some questions and answered them with his Christian opinion.
I think it's sad that A&E did what they did.
Are you fucking kidding me?! His ass should have been fired. Not suspended.

And why fired?? because he answered honestly? He wasn't "bashing" anybody!

  • You're right. Lumping beastiality and homosexuality together is totally positive. It won't hurt anyone's feelings. And, like Jesus said, screw love, it's all about hating those who are different.

It's not about bashing people. No one said he wasn't allowed to say what he said or answer whatever question. By the same turn, the network that airs his show
in order to make a profit is free to drop him when it becomes clear the show could become unprofitable because of one person's opinion and the backlash from people's response to his opinions.

  • And of course, everyone will never agree on everything! That is what has been one of the amazing things about this Country! He spoke how he feels about it. What is the harm in that? Seriously, people need to get over things. There are always going to be things said that everyone doesn't agree on. It doesn't make either right or wrong, but how everyone seems to get so upset and "feelings hurt" Really, he was answering questions with his opinion! I am so not anti gay at all. I have friends, family. They think this is ridiculous too!!!

That is not at all what I'm saying. You know about this because he is in the lime light and everyone is upset. If this was an office situation, no one would know and no one would be complaing on FB.

I agree with @cloudymeatballs. It seems like everyone is too sensitive about everything lately.

  • Yes, those gays and their sympathizers really need to butch up and stop having so many feelings.

He's not being treated differently because he's in the limelight. He's being treated the same way that generic office worker would be treated. But because he's in the limelight, the story ends up all over the news. It's the story's snowballing news coverage that's happened because of his celebrity, not the repercussions for his opinions.

Everyone should be able to have whatever feelings they want on their own! That is fine! So Phil shouldn't be able to have HIS feelings either??

  • I understand how people are furious over what he said. And I understand that A&E did what they thought they had to do.

What I don't like is how someone says something they believe, and another person (network, what-have-you) doesn't like it, then they get to say, "No, I don't agree with what you said. You will be punished." (I understand he wasn't really "punished.")

He's a real person. Real people have different beliefs and say the wrong things sometimes. Why not have the viewers make the decision?

I'm not supporting what he said, but I'm also not supporting A&E's decision to indefinitely suspend him from the show.

  • If I sent an op-ed to the Pgh Post-Gazette (with my name and place of employment) that said anything that could be construed as racist, sexist, homophobic, etc., I could and should be fired from my job. And I am not (yet) a public figure.

No one is saying that. But if you're going to express opinions that are obviously disparaging to other groups of people, you'd better be prepared to face the consequences, that's all. He should be aware that being on such a high profile show (I can't even believe that's the case, ugh), anything he expresses is going to be up for criticism by numerous others.

  • Let's try this.

Replace "homosexuality" in his statement with "black". Now do you get it?
    imageimageimageAnniversary
  • Why? Religion isn't something to hide behind when you're being an asshole. If I said these things in my work environment I would be fired. He's not being treated differently. He is sharing his opinions in a magazine where they are interviewing him about his job. Therefore his opinions are now associated with his company. He's representing a company. If he said these things about Jewish people, or people of a different race or fat people your arguments would be different.
