I live near 3 giant malls. When I go into the office, I park in the garage of a 4th giant mall.
I did 90% of my Christmas shopping online this year. The number of boxes that have found their way to my doorstep is pretty absurd.
That is pretty awesome. I live less than a half a mile from a huge mall and haven't stepped foot in there for any Christmas shopping. And I have all my stuff delivered to my office. I'm sure my coworkers think I'm nuts.
H and I are having a moral, political, ethical, legal, whatever discussion over text this morning about the Duck Dynasty guy's comments in GQ. It all stemmed from an invitation I got on FB this morning to boycott A&E for suspending this guy from the show.
I feel infinitely dumber for having this conversation.
I realized last night that I'll have much more time to read next year since DH will be deployed. I got excited and started thinking about books I want to read. I can't decide if I'm awesome for seeing a silver lining or if I'm kind of a terrible person for getting excited about something related to this deployment.
I feel really stupid even admitting this and perhaps a bit bratty (I'm admitting this upfront)- I can't post this on my BMB. I feel kind of pathetic that since none of my friends offered to throw a baby shower for us, my mom feels like she has to now. The last thing I want is for my mom to feel like she's obligated to this (wants to and obligated to are different). Several people in my family have asked her when it's going to be since they found out I was pg and she'd been telling people she has no idea since traditionally it's not her responsibility (I know traditions have changed a bit on this). But now that I have 12 weeks left, she feels that if no one else wants to, she has to. I'm staying out of it for the most part, she's asked for some people's addresses so if she wants them I'll give them. I keep telling her that it's not something she has to do (DH doesn't get any of this etiquette stuff and think he can just go around asking who's doing it) Yes, I realize a shower gift and yes, I realize that not everyone gets one so really I shouldn't feel like this & it makes me sound gift grabby. But when your other friends have had their showers thrown by friends, it makes you kind of feel crappy. Another part of me also feels like just saying f' it all together and just not having one.
Also-nothing on FB about this please
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”
Another confession-it made my Friday to come into work and see a sticker on our old printer that says "replace". After the new year, everyone is getting brand new computers (we have a new owner) and the printer I share with 2-3 other people is also finally being replaced as well. It costs more to fix than what it's worth and likes to not print, trays like to just turn off & not work, and it gets streaky when it prints sometimes. It'll be nice to have work equiptment that works better and that will actually be worth fixing if it breaks.

My mom and sister threw mine for Collin. None of my friends are married or have kids, so they have no concept of the etiquette. I wouldn't stress over it at all.

My aunt sent me a photo of herself and my uncle in camouflage this morning "wear camouflage to support Duck Dynasty!".
My brain hurts from all the Duck Dynasty stuff. I almost threw something at the TV last night over someone's comment. WTF is wrong with people? Some of it coming from elected officials. It makes me sick.
After giving DH a hard time about bringing the tree down from the attic, it sat in my living room for at least a week, and then last night I decided that I don't even want to put it up.
I also called my MIL and asked her to host Christmas dinner so I don't have to.
@NorthernLights - my baby shower was thrown by my MIL/SIL (and my bridal shower too, for that matter), and all of my friends had showers thrown by someone in their family unless family wasn't local. That's just what most people do now, and since people have been asking your mom about it since they found out, it's pretty obvious they assume your mother planned on doing it all along. I hate that you feel that she doesn't want to.
I am not surprised by anything about the stupid Duck crap. Not surprised he said something like that, not surprised people have reacted the way they have. I'm so jaded by this kind of garbage anymore. I am disappointed by how much people in society seem to love those who preach hate and hate those who preach love, though. WTF is wrong with us?
Wow, I seem really pissed off. I'm not though. Just disenchanted with humanity right now.
Thanks River & Nocturnal. I guess I feel bad that she feels like she has to do it rather than she wants to from the couple times she has mentioned it. She talked to my half sister about it and she's the one who said it is ok nowadays since she's not the baby's mom which leads to believe that's the only reason she's now thinking about it. But it's not something I really need to concern myself about at this point anyway. If it happens, it happens & if it doesn't oh well. I'm more excited about Christmas anyway

Seriously. I can't understand why people care so much or why they feel the need to yell at everyone how they feel about it. I wish people would just stop talking.
On a related note, I'm inclined to ask all of the preachy people on my FB if they're going to eat mass amounts of duck in protest this time around.

I honestly don't care one whit about the Duck Dynasty person. What annoys me most is people who hide behind their religion and use it as an excuse to hate.
Sassy, did you hear about the pastor who was defrocked this month?
I think it's weird that we have half a dozen posts in here talking about how much we hate people talking about Duck Dynasty. This is rapidly starting to resemble my FB feed.
My confession is that last night when I got home from my Girls Night Out, I woke DH up for sex so that he will learn to equate GNO with wined up crazy sex.
I've never watched an episode of Duck Dynasty. I don't plan to either, but not because of the comments, because I do't find the premise to be all that appealing. I'm just not interested.
I'm putting together my meeting agendas and monthly email templates for 2014 because that's really all the focus I have today. I'm not going to be able to get anything serious or meaningful done today. Plus, I'll feel better about leaving (soon I hope!) if these things are in place.
BIL is coming into town and MIL has made plans for all of for the 6 days he's around. I know I'll have fun, but I'm already exhausted just thinking about it and wanting to hide under a blanket with my dogs and a book.
I confess I would rather spend Christmas break with my ILs than my family. The ILs are so much better at helping out with Emma than my own mother. MIL wakes up early and plays with Emma so I can sleep in. My mom has never played independently with Emma.
I feel totally comfortable leaving Em with MIL to run errands, watch a movie, etc. I do not feel the same with my mom.
My Christmas plans got so complicated yesterday and I am so pissed at MH about all of it. I found out last night that his dad is staying with us Sunday and Monday night. Christmas lunch has been changed to Christmas dinner with all of my SIL's family (which is honestly the only part of our plans that doesn't bother me, but it's 20 people I'm in no way related to), his mother is staying with us Thursday night, we have to drive 1.5 hours to spend Friday night at his aunt's house, and then drive another hour from there on Saturday for an extended family Christmas party. I really don't have any time to take off right now so that leaves Christmas morning and maybe some time Christmas eve with my family. That's it. I haven't been excited for Christmas since my ILs came into the picture.
We also bought a new dining room table and he said that's my Christmas gift. Thanks.
Basically everything he is doing right now is bothering me.
