Re: Duck Dynasty...

  • Lillie for someone who says they want equality and stand against hate. Your words and arguments are quite hateful towards anyone who disagrees with you. Which I find hypocritical.

    Hate begets hate.

  • Listen, you can believe whatever you want. I don't care about your beliefs until they infringe on the happiness and civil rights of others.

Beliefs about homosexuality being a lifestyle and "wrong" hurt people. They keep people from living the lives they want. Why are you (general you ffs) ok with hurting people?

No one here said they thought their beliefs should impact the lives of others. No one here said that because they believe same sex marriage is a sin they believe it should be illegal.

There is a difference between people's faith and what they believe should be legal.

But it doesn't matter what I say it is automatically wrong isnt it?

Even though you don't actually know my stance on the issue

And therein lies the problem.  When someone vocalizes their beliefs (especially in front of a national audience) it DOES impact the lives of others.

But I thought that those who shouted the loudest (or punctuated the most) were usually right?

Chiming in - I think it is interesting that everyone is focusing on the anti-gay comments that he made and kind of skipping over the fact that he said black people were better off before pre-civil rights...

True! I think that's just what most people latched onto.

I also think that his experience with how blacks lived/were treated/what they thought was so extremely limited based on where he lived, he has no real idea what their lives were like on a large scale. He spoke based on his very very limited experience and exposure. So I took it with a major grain of salt and moved on.
Did he not also speak about homosexuality based on his very very limited experience and exposure? Cause that's the impression I got. Also, calling someone a bigot is a bold and unsavory accusation. Telling said person that they are over reacting and to "take deep breaths" is just wrong.
No, he spoke about his beliefs about homosexuality based entirely on what the Bible says, which, despite his beliefs that it is the unerring word of God, was written by men just as flawed as you or I.

The interview quoted him as saying the black he saw on a daily basis working in the fields of poor and rural northern LA seemed happy with their lot in life (more or less). The fact that he'd generalize that to ALL blacks living under pre-civil rights laws is the problem. He had no clue what others dealt with, so how could he say they were all happy living that way?

BTW, I didn't call anyone a bigot or stupid or ignorant or any other name. But Cloudy kept posting agitated remarks and I was just trying to restore a semblance of peace so we could keep having a discussion and not have it turn into all-out emotional drama.

Then again, once you stepped in, what else could we expect.

Ha ha ha!!! This is fabulous I am the one with the agitated remarks. Love it! Lillie is so right. My bad for disagreeing with her. What the heck was I thinking. Right side, left side, which is right?? At least one side is willing to see an small understanding to both sides without calling names for voicing an opinion.

Simply turn the page or the channel. There are plenty things on tv I do not agree with, but do I go bitching to the people about it to get rid of it?? NO! Everybody has the right to their own beliefs!

  • @cloudymeatballs -- take it with a grain of salt. Most people who've been around for a while have been flamed at some point.

I respect those who stand up for what they believe in, regardless of whether I agree or not. I think they key is to stand up for your beliefs in a way that doesn't attack others. As I've said, I like Phil. I think he chose the wrong words and the wrong place.

I read today that the family is standing behind him and said the show may not continue. I greatly respect that decision, if they choose it, as well.

Everybody has a right to their opinion. And I personally do not think it is right to be fired just because somebody doesn't agree with what I believe. That just seems so wrong tome..

So suck it up. Ugly behavior is not only accepted, it's encouraged! Getting flamed is like a badge of honor here. Don't you feel special?! Hooray!!
