Are you debt free? Did it feel a lot different?

Re: Are you debt free? Did it feel a lot different?

  • When DH and I started working on our debt, I had student loans, and we had 2 mortgages on 2 separate houses. And this year we became debt free by paying off the last mortgage. Part of it took a drastic step to get it done so quickly (moving overseas on an open ended job assignment for DH which dramatically increased our income that year), but it does feel great to know that our house is paid for and we have no debt to anyone. This has allowed me to stay home with our baby and not worry too much about losing my income.
Being debt free has also allowed us to start a college fund for our baby, increase our retirement savings, and give more than we usually did.
