NBR: 2014 Projects/Goals

Does anyone have any projects or goals for 2014?  Not necessarily resolutions or anything.  I know people had mention career or job changes.  I'm looking to get motivated about 2014!

Re: NBR: 2014 Projects/Goals

  • I need to organize the garage and pantry.  We keep starting and then stopping.  It just needs to get done.  Problem is we need someone to watch Audrey because otherwise she's just in the way so we're at the mercy of my parents.

I'm hoping to repaint the half bath too just because.

I'm contemplating starting training for a Tough Mudder in May.  Need to decide that like, now.

Also, we need to decide if we are going to attempt to sell our house again or not.

  • Let's see...

    - For work: become PMP certified. I go to training for this next month.

    - Start running again. Right now, all I do is walk the dog for about an hour, weather permitting. We skipped it this morning since it was like 8 degrees out. In the Spring, I would like to start with the Couch to 5K program though.

  • I just want 2014 to be a better year.

Though, it would be nice to get things done around here I suppose.

I'd like to work on some renovations in the house, mostly bathrooms. I'd like to work on the nursery and have a reason to use it, but I don't have much control over that.

I would like to use my bike for errands as much as possible.

I want to stick to eating the foods I have been, since they make me feel better and reduce inflammation. I'm on the road right now and road food is causing a lot of inflammation.

I want to start section hiking the Appalachian trail. 7 years ago I was set to head out on a thru hike and then I got sick. I don't want to lose that part of myself. I've left it behind for too long.

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to."
    "I don't much care where –"
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go.”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

  • I'd like to focus on getting more organized and putting more time and effort towards the important things in my life, like my family and taking care of myself.

  • 1. Stress less
    2. Learn to say no and not have to explain why I don't want to do things.
    3. Have a better attitude at work and not let my coworker effect me so much.
    4. Move to a bigger apartment.
    5. Be healthier.
    6. Spend less on stupid crap.

  • I must get my house under control and organized.

My plan is to tackle one room or area at a time. Toss/donate/sell what we don't need, buy and organize what we do, and finish decorating. The only rooms that are 100% decorated are the living-room and Adelaide's room. I've lived in my house for 5.5 years.

    - Lose weight (hahahaha. No but for real.)
    - Get back my style. I have sacrificed far too much of it for mom clothes.
    - Kill the LSAT. Get into law school.
For serious.  Some days I don't even know how it happened.  I look in the mirror and wonder WTF am I wearing?

  • I'd love to become more organized and procrastinate less.  Our big family goal this year is to build a chicken coop and start raising chickens for eggs.

  • My big goals this year are:

    1) Finally have a fruit/vegetable garden
    2) Get "me" back.  Take off on @elistar's goal. I just want to exist as myself.  I lost a bit of myself to be a mom, and while the second half of the year was better, I need to be me again, mom and the person I was before.
    3) Focus more on my IRL friendships.  We've done OK keeping up with them, but I want to do better.

  • - quit current job and find one that makes me happy/pays more
    - lose weight and keep it off this time
    - stress less over things that are out of my control
    - actually have money in a savings account
    - eliminate certain people from my life

  • Keep the entire house organized at the same time.  I swear there are elves shoving papers in all of the drawers of things that I just cleaned out.  I opened the wine cabinet the other day to put away some glasses and Sophie's school pictures fell out.

Continue my adventure to Get Rid of Junk.  This has been an ongoing goal.

Be more crafty.  Or rather, finish what I've started.  My office is full of half-knitted scarves, half-sewed quilts, clothes that need hemming or repairing, and yesterday I filled up an entire bin with felt that I purchased for god-knows-what.

  • Clean out and paint the "finished" part of the basement.

    Tile the kitchen floor.

Plant a butterfly garden in the back and do the landscaping in the front of the house.

Start meditating and doing yoga more regularly.  I found a lunchtime meditation class near work just before Christmas and went once, but I'd like to start going every week.
  • I really need to get back to being "me" again. I've started by keeping a daily journal, but also want to do more than just that.
I need to lose weight and tone up. We've been sick since new years basically, so tomorrow is the big start to that project. A has his first swimming lesson, meaning I have to wear a bathing suit. Yikes!
Communicate better with mh. It is a project for both of us.
I need to find a job this spring/summer. It's not going to be easy, and once my Mat leave dries up I know I will be under a lot of stress.
Make friends in my new town. This is a monumental task for me.

House Projects-- Finish first half of basement, paint A's room (have the paint, just need to do it), build a gazebo on back deck, and figure out where to plant a small (!) vegetable garden.
  • Buy an investment property (but this may be pushed to next year).

    Go to Europe.

    Possibly go back to school.

  • 1. Be more creative - with writing, scrapbooking, whatever.
    2. Get my PHR certification
    3. Be healthier - eating, being active, etc.
    4. Start and stick to mostly meal planning
    5. Continue saying "yes" to things I would normally not do to expand my horizons

  • Redo the kitchen.
    Pave the driveway.
Either scrapbook the 5+ years of stuff I've been saving to scrapbook, or accept that I'm not going to ever do it and clear things out.
  • In June I am quitting my "day job" and am going to spend 100% of my time in my business.  We are getting some good international press and sales over the holidays were great.
    WOW! Congrats! That's really exciting.

  • I've already cleaned out/organized my kitchen cabinets last week. I also want to organize my craft stuff, paint our bedroom and upstairs hallway, and paint the family and get new carpet for it.

  • I really need to get a full time teaching job this year...it's my 3rd year subbing and it's just getting old and kind of discouraging.  Not to mention the after-school tech monitor/sort of tutor job I took on this year too.  So, I work 12 hour days for peanuts.  The full-time job is priority numero uno this year...now if districts would only stop hiring coaches for all the social studies jobs.

In addition to that, I really need to clean out the apartment's basement.  We have just collected so much junk and I don't want to move all that in a year and a half when we buy a house.

  • -Start running again and hopefully do another half marathon in the fall.

    -Take better care of myself.

    -Spend less time on technology

    -Spend more time with mh
