AW: I'm going to Boston!

DH and I booked our hotel for PAX East in April last night. Super excited! We haven't gone in a couple years. Looking forward to having some fun.

I know there are lots of awesome ladies on this board who live in the area. We're staying at the Marriott in Cambridge and the convention is at convention hall. Any recommendations on where to eat (cheap)?

  • I'm jealous! One day I will make it to Boston and meet @BruinsBabe33!
  • Aww Boston is fun. You're gonna have a great time.

There's a great Italian/pizza place on Newbury St. called Papa Razzi. It's the best pizza I've had since Italy. Bruins took me to Legal Seafood and it was awesome, too.

  • Oh! And Flour. It's near Newbury St., too. I still think about the breakfast sandwich there.

The one we went to was Long Wharf I think. I'm pretty sure the aquarium was nearby. There are a ton of Legal Seafood restaurants in Boston, though.

  • Yay Boston.

I'd make Bruins take you to this awesome place- the Pond House Grille.  It's not far at all- just in a neighboring town (*cough* state *cough*) I can meet you guys there. They have awesome entertainment.

In all seriously-ness.  Legal Seafood is a definite.  H and I really enjoyed Wagamama, which was in the Prudential Center.  Not extraordinary culinary experience, but it was yum, and if I remember correctly, affordable.

And hey, if you make it to the Sam Adams Brewery, you're one up on us!

  • If you are staying at the Marriott in Cambridge, there is a ton of stuff you can walk to.  It is pretty much right in Kendall Square.  The Friendly Toast has a great breakfast.  The Hungry Mother is really good for dinner, but a little pricey.  There is also a new Legal Seafood right in Kendall as well.  If you want pub food/beer check out Cambridge Brewing Company also in Kendall Square.  I used to work in that area, and I've done a lot of eating :) Have fun!

  • I'm not from Boston, but I go there quite a bit and Legal Seafood gets my vote too. Another vote for Wagamama for cheap yummy food. Annnnnnddddd you absolutely MUST hit up El Pelon (mexican). Go for lunch though because it's not super fancy, but the food is bangin'. I think they have 2 locations in the city - the one I went to was near Fenway Park.

  • Have fun!

  • Boston is the best! We love Rock Bottom in the theater district and Artu's in the North End. Everyone thinks Mike's Pastry on Hanover is the best, but Bova's is just around the corner on Salem Street, and it's amazing. I try to stop there whenever I head into the city. I have no comment on seafood. I hate lobster even though I'm originally from the North Shore. **hides**

  • How long will you be staying? And how much time do you plan on being at PAX? DH and I have gone every year since they started it in Boston (though he'll be going solo this year). If you plan on being at the center for the full amount of the convention, honestly the food court is your best bet.

If you stay for the concerts, note that there are VERY VERY few food options afterwards. The first year we went, DH and some of our friends walked from the center back to the hotel thinking they'd grab food on the way home and there was literally nothing open. We did discover this awesome place the next year called Bova in the North End. It's a 24 hour pastry/deli and it's fabulous. We've been back every year since.

If you're staying extra days outside of the convention, there are obviously tons of options, but we've only done that once. :) Have tons of fun!

  • I've never been to Boston. I hear it's the best city in the world, though. If you don't go to Saus, you're doing life wrong. And yes, the Legal Seafood I took @Lilliesandvino to was across from the aquarium.

Son of a bitch! Now I have to come back to go to Saus. I can't help but think you didn't take me there on purpose to score yourself another visit from moi.
What?!? Do you really think I would do that?!? Ok... You caught me.
  • We'll be there Friday-Monday. I doubt we'll spend every our at Convention Hall. The last time we went we didn't.

We want to catch up with some family while there too. I'm overwhelmed with all the recommendations! Who knows where we'll end up (other than Saus).
