UO

I hate when someone intros and people automatically tell them to start charting. It's not doable for some people and there is nothing wrong with trying without taking your temperature every morning for a while. I know charting works for some women, but I hate that people just automatically tell every intro to chart.

Yes, it's about the board, but I'm a rule breaker! Add yours!

Re: UO

  • I didn't chart for seven months. And when I did chart, it didnt tell me anything I already knew. It was nice to know where I was in the cycle, but I agree.

Hmmm, my UO is that I think Krispy Kreme is gross. Actually, any donut not from dunkin donuts is gross.

  • Obviously charting has been good to me. :) I love it and I rec TCOYF to anyone. It helps me bc I'm an anxious and nebby person and I like to know all I can about everything. I know it's not for everyone, and that's totally cool.

I just think that the posts like "omgz I'm 5 days late and none of my tests are positive. Do you think I'm pregnant? I'm probably pregnant, right? My doc needs to give me a blood test ASAP" are so annoying and I'd rather point people in the direction of TCOYF than trying to explain it on here.
    imageimageimageAnniversary
  • And @MRads is right. Krispy Kreme can suck it.
    imageimageimageAnniversary
  • I definitely think charting is an awesome awesome tool! I'm not saying that! I just think telling someone to chart right off the bat is taking some of the romance out of the process. And I agree that those questions are annoying and those people would benefit from knowing something about their bodies.

    I miss KK :-/

  • Krispy kreme are gross but Dunkin donuts are worse.

Shipleys all the way (if we are talking chain donuts)

  • Those of you hating on KK can suck it!! I love both KK and DD: KK for their glazed donuts; DD for their jelly-filled. Damnit, now I want a donut!!

I agree with Bruins; I didn't chart (other than tracking my periods) for the first 6 months of TTC. I only like recommending charting to newbies who've been trying a while and don't seem to know their fertility signs/cycles as well as they think. Once that 6 months was up, I was all about figuring shit out, and charting was a huge eye opener! It would have been overwhelming to start it right off the bat though.

I think it's great to refer them to TCOYF so they understand that if they aren't getting AF at exactly 28 days, then it doesn't mean they're Totes Prego.  Now after months of TTC with no success or wonky cycles, then I would recommend it over and over again.

Oh and KK are awesome! Give me a bavarian creme filled with chocolate icing anytime.  But DD, no. Gross.

  • I've tried DD a couple times and have found their coffee products quite disappointing.

Also, I don't hate Jenny McCarthy as much as I am apparently supposed to.  If I had children, I would certainly vaccinate them.  And, I wouldn't listen to a celebrity about my child's health.  If you make decisions about your child's health based on what a celebrity says, you're an idiot.

BUT...I don't blame her for using everything in her power to protect and support her child.  We would all do it.  She just has a little more power than most of us and therefore gets more attention.  If a doctor or some sort of reputable research told me that X and Y were the cause of my child's illness, well then I might get vocal too.

  • I agree Bruins, yet I'm also one who frequently tells people to start charting/read up on it. It's the IF in me I guess... mostly because I only WISH I had started charting immediately instead of waiting over a year to even start charting. I always look back and think how if I'd started charting immediately, I might have figured out the problem sooner, might've started treatment sooner, which might put me at having a kid by now vs being 5 years in and still no baby. Who knows. Probably not lol.. So I totally agree with you that jumping into charting isn't always the best idea, yet i'm still the one who will forever at least throw out the idea to newbs. I can't help it! ;)

  • I agree that pushing charting for a newb is not usually the right approach unless she has been TTC for a while with no luck.  TCOYF is a resource every woman should read regardless of TTC or not.

Also, I have never tried KK or DD, Tim Hortons for life! (For cheap coffee) Or SB, my personal fave.

My boss doesn't know every decision I make on his behalf. I don't think Obama knows every decision his staff makes. I don't think Christie should be held to a higher standard. I'm not saying I know he had no knowledge of it. I'm just saying, right now, no one can prove he did.

I won't so much say it's a smear campaign yet. Lots of things need to be looked into. But I am so pissed at everyone who is already determining he is guilty. (specifically some morons I work with). If he comes out that he knew what was happening, he deserves what he gets. But if he didn't, I think this will only teach him to keep a better eye on what his staff is doing. Possibly make him a better candidate for president. Who knows?

  • The post about the schools in the south closing for the cold really bugged me.  I think that there are a lot of children who don't have warm coats and hats/gloves, and maybe don't have enough clothes to layer to be warm enough for the walk to school or wait for the bus in freezing temperatures.

I'm becoming a goddamn bleeding heart in my old age.

I agree, @seahorse01. I've worked with SO many kids over th eyears through a local mission who did not own warm clothing (since it's not THAT common here), had holey shoes/clothes, and/or had parents who didn't give a rip and would never dream of driving their kid to school. There are far too many kids who have to walk to school or wait on a bus. I get that it sounds silly to some, but for those not prepared for cold weather, it's not a joke.

On the same subject. I get SO freaking irritated when people make fun of all of us Texans when we had our ice storm several weeks ago. Dude, it was ICE... not snow, not gritty sleet, but solid, slippery ice. Yes, I know that up north/northeast this may be a common thing and I know that you can salt the roads to help. Some roads WERE salted/sanded, but seeing as how we get like maybe 1 ice storm a year (if that), we do not have the equipment on hand to do this to the extent necessary to get around somewhat normally. They don't touch side streets (and some of what I would consider main roads) most of the time. So quit calling us weenies because some people choose to stay inside vs taking the risk of driving around on incredibly icy roads with 2 wheel drive cars. (FTR, we drove around the entire time and hardly slipped at all, but we have 4 wheel drive and know how to handle the ice). At work, even the transplants from upstate NY and Colorado were complaining about how bad the roads were! So please STOP making fun of us or else I fully reserve the right to call you pansies when complain about a 90 degree day and you don't even have humidity!
