  • Bad weather is bad weather. I don't care where you are from. Also, we have schools close here if it's too cold. You can't have kids out in weather they can't handle. Not cool if people don't realize that. Must have missed that post.

On the same subject. I get SO freaking irritated when people make fun of all of us Texans when we had our ice storm several weeks ago. Dude, it was ICE... not snow, not gritty sleet, but solid, slippery ice. Yes, I know that up north/northeast this may be a common thing and I know that you can salt the roads to help. Some roads WERE salted/sanded, but seeing as how we get like maybe 1 ice storm a year (if that), we do not have the equipment on hand to do this to the extent necessary to get around somewhat normally. They don't touch side streets (and some of what I would consider main roads) most of the time. So quit calling us weenies because some people choose to stay inside vs taking the risk of driving around on incredibly icy roads with 2 wheel drive cars. (FTR, we drove around the entire time and hardly slipped at all, but we have 4 wheel drive and know how to handle the ice). At work, even the transplants from upstate NY and Colorado were complaining about how bad the roads were! So please STOP making fun of us or else I fully reserve the right to call you pansies when complain about a 90 degree day and you don't even have humidity!

I totally agree with this!  I am tired of people making fun of us for the ice!
Ice is scary ass shit.  I'll drive in snow, no problem, but I don't mess with ice at all.  An ice storm is far worse than a snow storm so the people who made fun of it are idiots.

I agree, @seahorse01. I've worked with SO many kids over th eyears through a local mission who did not own warm clothing (since it's not THAT common here), had holey shoes/clothes, and/or had parents who didn't give a rip and would never dream of driving their kid to school. There are far too many kids who have to walk to school or wait on a bus. I get that it sounds silly to some, but for those not prepared for cold weather, it's not a joke.

Here's a picture of said ice storm on the interstate in Dallas. It was no joke!

  • Ice is no joke. My DH is a Colorado native and refused to drive when we had an ice storm here. It's not some pretty powdery snow that just blows off the road.
