Who wants to help me spend a ton of money?

My library has to spend a very, very, very large amount of money by February.  We're actually in trouble with the school because we haven't spent it yet and it HAS to be spent.  So my boss turned me loose and told me to order a ton of YA/MG/Children's lit.  What are the MUST HAVES?  Right now our selection is tiny: Hunger Games, some HPs (obviously I'll request the full set of those), Eleanor and Park, and that's about it.

  • I don't think I've seen anyone mention Percy Jackson yet.  Or the spinoff series.

    My favorite Cake Wreck ever.

  • I HIGHLY suggest Patrick Ness. I think his books appeal to BOTH sexes, and there is far too little out there for boys in the YA world, IMO. I mean, boys can read anything, of course, but Ness is particularly appealing to all.

There is a series by Anne Ursu - female protagonist - but also mythological.  It is pretty good.

At my school we have a lot of non-fiction about war - the boys check those out quite a bit.

  • I also enjoyed the Under the Never Sky series by Veronica Rossi. Book 3  (Into the Still Blue) isn't out yet though. I loved Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Brunt Rifka, but am not sure if that is even considered YA or if it would be controversial. I would have loved it in HS. What about The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer? Graceling by Kristin Cashore was another good one, IMO

I'd say the whole series :). I liked The Giver best but whole series is a good idea. If you are including kids lit- Anne of Green Gables series, Indian in the Cupboard series, Chronicles of Narnia, Little House on the Prarie and one of my personal favorites- Sideways Stories from Wayside school
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”
