WIJFR: The Ocean at the End of the Lane (NS)
All of you Gaimaniacs will be happy to hear that I really loved this one! I've read a few Neil Gaiman books now and always feel underwhelmed. I've enjoyed all of them, but I guess maybe I had really high expectations or something, because I've never been blown away the way that I always expected to be. But this was such a nice little story. I loved how dreamlike it all felt at the end, and I loved how it sort of felt autobiographical at times (the little boy with books for best friends, totally ready to believe wholeheartedly in these other worlds . . .) It was really good. I liked it a lot, and I'm really happy that I picked it up on a whim at the library last weekend.

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."
- Neil Gaiman
