I'm reading This Song Will Save Your Life.  Eh.  I kind of want to slap the MC.

    #7
I just started this as well and surprisingly feel the same as @packfan20. This is my #3 for the year
I felt that way, too. It got better, but I never really liked the MC.
The MC is too annoying IMO

  • I'm reading the Golden One, it is #7 for the year and is good so far.

I'm listening to Hereafter, it is #8, I like it but I'm having a hard time with the voice of the narrator.  I will finish it shortly and start something else, I've finished 4 audiobooks this week at work.

I'm reading Between You and Me by the ladies who wrote the Nanny Diaries.  I need to stop reading their books.  I read Dedication not that long ago and found it disjointed and poorly edited, and frankly, the same is true about this one.  Ugh.  It reads like two people wrote it and didn't communicate much with each other about how the plot was going.  Annoying.  I need to quit remembering that I enjoyed Nanny Diaries and remember how much I DIDN'T like the rest of their books!

UPDATE: Finished it.  Still don't care for it.  It's like the authors ran out of giveadamn.  I did.

  • Just finished Eleanor and Park and starting Clockwork Angel.

  • I'm listening to Ashes (the first book in the Ashes trilogy) and really liking it although the narratoris a bit manic at times!

I am reading Biology Of Luck which I won on goodreads, I do not love it but I'm already halfway through and it's just over 200 pages so I think I'll soldier on.

They are #s 10 and 11 for the year and I think I'm going to be able to fit them both into WBC in one spot or another.

Listening to Beauty Queens at the gym.  Meh.  I'm not into it, but I'm only about 4 chapters in so I'll continue giving it a chance.  But maybe not at the gym, I ran like crap the days that I was listening to this.

These are numbers 5, 6, and 7 for the year.
I listened to Beauty Queens too and really did not like it.

I'm finishing up The Dressmaker on audio.  I really enjoyed this one.  It's historical fiction taking place around the sinking of the Titanic.

Oh, that looks good! I just added it to my to-read list.

Cinnabun and Junebug say, "Go Wildcats!"

  • I'm reading Bombshell by Catherine Coulter and When Godly People Do Ungodly Things by Beth Moore.

Bombshell is my WBC book with a red cover, and the Beth Moore book is for WBC author with the same first name.  Both of them are pretty good.

  • I am reading The Scorpio Races for buddy reads. It is great so far!

I am reading Reconstructing Amelia just for fun. It is just okay so far.

I felt like everyone has recommended it so hard, I was afraid I was missing something in not appreciating it so far!  I'll give it a little more time, and maybe I'll even finish it, but so far, no good.

I'm reading Just One Day by Gayle Forman.  I'm about 50 pages in and enjoying it.  This is for a buddy read and is book #2 of the year.

I'm also teaching Ayn Rand's Anthem, so that will be book #3, even though I will have read it four times (since I have four different classes) by the time we finish next week.

This is how I felt when I started Beauty Queens over the summer.  Everyone raved about it but I only made it about 5 or 6 chapters in before giving up.  The talking, voices, etc., just annoyed the crap out of me.  Some day I'll finish it.

Oh, and it's still the best fucking book EVER. Ever.

OMG, RIGHT?!?!  I hate all of the characters so far.  The commercials are the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

  • I'm switching back and forth between a Kindle book, a hard cover, the textbooks for the classes I'm teaching this semester and two audiobooks right now so my brain is kind of all over the place.

On Kindle: Undeniably Yours by Shannon Stacey- I love her books so much, but I don't love Beth, the heroine in this one so much.
Hardcover: The Year We Were Famous by Carole Estby Dagg- this is something my husband got me for Christmas the year before last and it is so charming. It's based on the true story of a mother and daughter who walked from Washington to NYC on their own in the late 1800s wearing corsets and all to save their farm. I'd never even heard of it before Paul found it for me, but I love it.
    On audio:
Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson - fun, but not super-oh-my-God-this-is-great.
David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell- once again I'm so impressed by the way this man looks at the same evidence everyone else has and has a way of seeing it all from such a different angle.

Vellichor: The strange wistfulness of used bookstores
  • I've been having trouble with books because I don't like the narrator. I started The Rosie Project and it sounds so awful but the narrator has Aspberger's and I don't find it funny at all. It is sooooo annoying. I can't stand Big Bang Theory either, and the guy reminds me of the show. It's a different mindset to learn about the Syndrome and how it impacts people. I'm getting but not getting that here. The other narrator I sort of dislike is Jordan, from Catching Jordan. I live football but I don't relate to her mentality at all. I'm finishing Beautiful Ruins on audio today and I've found that I did like it quite a bit. I wasn't sure for a while. Although it's slow going, I'm thinking that I like American Gods best right now. Have to get back to it. I need something to get me out of this slump!
I read this last year and felt exactly the same way about Jordan. I am also a sports freak, and a tomboy to boot, but I couldn't relate to her at all.

I keep just reading bits and pieces and I think I need to sit down this weekend and really get into it. I'm also reading The Happiness Project which is OK. They are #8-10 for the year and I think I can fit them all into WBC.
