Best: David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell
Worst: Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson - I liked some things about it- the prologue really sucked me in, for example- but it just wasn't a super stand-out for me. I never got very emotionally invested in the characters, so I wouldn't rush out to read another book in this series.

I'm struggling to finish this one. It kills me because I usually LOVE Sanderson's writing, and there's nothing inherently bad about this book, but I.just.don't.care. about the characters. =/

I know exactly what you mean. I saw on Goodreads that you were reading this too and I've been meaning to ask you what you thought since we seem to have similar taste. How far in are you? When you finish I want to see if you guessed something that happens. There were moments when I cared, but not enough of them. David's terrible metaphors were funny sometimes and the tech stuff like the tensers and the harmsway (sp? I listened to the audio version) were cool, but I don't know. The sum of the parts just didn't add up for me.

What else have you read of his?

  • Best: Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker - it was different than I anticipated, but I liked it.

Worst: If You Ask Me by Betty White - it wasn't bad (I gave it 3 stars, but that was generous) but it was just.. meh.  I really wanted to like it because I really like her, but it just didn't do much for me.

  • I haven't had a chance to read much but I started the new Bridget Jones and it's not good. Just don't read it! I can't wait for it to be over. We are reading it for our book club or I might flounce.
I rarely give up, but this was PAINFUL! I think I made it 30ish pages in and then just fanned ahead and read bits here and there.

  • I didn't have any reads this month that I really disliked so I'd say my best was A Modern Witch- Debora Geary and my worst was The Fall of Five by Pittacus Lore. I really enjoy the I am number 4 series but this one was slow and then as soon as it got exciting it cliffhangs.
  • First of all I am loving the Debora Geary love on here @SilverGlitter05 and @MrsVedo !!!

Best- Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin I am still processing this one. It had an enormous effect on me. Bigger than I ever imagined.

Worst- This year I Will by MJ Ryan
  • @fabk I'm pretty sure I started this series based on your recommendation so I should be thanking you :)
  • Best:
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince- J.K. Rowling 5 stars
    Legend- Marie Lu 5 stars

    Worst:
The Ocean at the End of the Lane- Neil Gaiman 2 stars

  • This is hard. I enjoyed everything I read and for different reasons.

Best: Even though I didn't rate it the highest, probably The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. It was a really good way to start the year and I had lots of conversations about it with two friends of mine who also read it.

Worst: It wasn't a bad book but the lowest rate (3 stars) is The Bungalow by Sarah Jio.

  • Best: John Adams by David McCullough--5 stars
Close second was The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley--4 stars

Worst: The Redemption of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorensen--1.5 stars

I've read 5 books towards my goal of 52, so I'm in good shape so far!

  • Best - If I Stay by Gayle Foreman and The Line by J.D. Horn

Worst - Dark Witch by NR - I just wasn't feeling it with this one, and it felt very deja vu, like I'd read it before.

  • I didnt read any "great" books in Janeary but my favorite was:

Best: Reckless by Skye Jordan, * * *

Worst: American Wife by Curtis Sittenfield, * *. It was a good story, I just hated the way it just "ended"

Best: Oh man, I had an amazing month.  It's a tie between HP 7 and The Golem and the Jinni

    Worst: Labor Day, hands down.
@julie37619 Did you go see the movie?  How did it compare?
When the screen faded to black at the end, I was praying in my head that it was actually over.  So. boring.  Even Kate Winslett let me down.  On the other hand, my sister liked it.

Best: Twice Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires) with 4 stars and Uncharted, On the Island 1.5 with 4 stars

Worst: August: Osage County with 2 stars.  The movie was better than the book at least, but still wasn't overly thrilled.
