Disappointing Endings Poll

Re: Disappointing Endings Poll

  • I'm torn on this one.  I get that with a series I've invested more time but I sometimes still feel good that I got to know the characters so much better than a stand alone which makes a bad ending bearable at times.

Series - The Maze Runner trilogy.  I hated this ending.

Stand-Alone - In the Woods - Tana French

Nicolle's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

  • I agree. Series take up so much more of your time and there is the awesome build up anticipation for the new book, especially when it's the last one and you hope it ends amazing and you'll think of it for years to come.

I'm scared to read the Divergent trilogy for this reason. I have book one ready to go but I'm worried it'll be ruined
After reading Insurgent, I now pretend Divergent does not have any sequels.  I think it works just fine alone.  (Sure, there are questions left unanswered, but I think a person could just use her imagination and leave it at that.  ;)
I think this is unintentionally what will end up happening lol. I'm worried I'll be too afraid to read Allegiant and just...won't.

  • I love Elizabeth Kostova's books (The Historian and The Swan Thieves), but I feel like she writes these epic books that are full of glorious imagery, and after about 700 pages she decides "eh, I'm done," and just wraps things up tidily but far too quickly.
