FRIDAY CONFESSIONS

We have two pictures today.  Obviously, I needed to include something about the Olympics.  The second picture was sent to me by a fellow nestie who wanted to make a contribution to Friday Confessions.  Sooooo....the second picture is dedicated to @c7lan

Re: FRIDAY CONFESSIONS

  • I have a sinus infection. J told me to take it easy today. So that basically means read and sleep all day right?!?
I may have to milk this sinus infection for all it is worth.
  • Instead of getting work done today, I am going to plan my garden.  Winter can suck it.
I'm compulsively reading my seed catalogs, just because I feel like it proves that eventually spring will get here.

Izey and I have this whole list of things we're planting- he's totally a tiny gardener and it is so fun :)

He's really obsessed with butterflies right now and we're going to pull up some ugly bushes in the back yard and plant a bunch of flowers that butterflies love and I'm super excited about that because we've  never done it before.

Ahhh, spring. Dirt! I miss you!

In my eyes, this confession is kinda shameful...

In an argument with my H last week, I seriously yelled out, "Teamwork makes the dream work!"

    Sigh.
    THIS...

This is your ticket to stardom, babe.
  • It was snowy yesterday and we let out from school a little early...

But today, I was praying HARD for school to be cancelled.

These kids are gonna be cray cray.

    Send chocolate.
  • Since I have to drive 5 hours this weekend with a toddler in the car, I'm debating whether I should take Monday off and take him to Disney World. I mean, we're already in the area....
    I would totally do it!!!

  • @EliStar @84Lauren My co-worker nicknames most of my shoes.  There are the 'Hitler' shoes; the 'Liza Minelli' shoes (which are black and sparkley); the 'Barney' shoes (purple); the "MaryAnn" shoes (they are ginham and look like something Maryann from Gilligan's Island would wear), etc. etc.

I think he has nicknamed half my shoe closet.

  • I think not watching the Olympics because you disagree with Russia as the host, or with Russia's politics or how they're approaching it is disrespectful to all of the athletes who have busted their asses to get there.

Also, I cry during every medal ceremony because I'm so effing proud of every single one of those athletes, no matter what country they're from.

I think the fact that they chose Russia in the first place is far more disrespectful to the homosexual athletes participating.

I'm still going to watch because I really do love the Olympics and I am always so moved by the dedication it takes to get there. But I don't have that warm, fuzzy feeling of togetherness and global unity that the Olympics always gives me and it really bums me out.

I feel naive, but for a while there, I really, really, really thought that we were going to find a way to reject Russia and their absolute disregard for the spirit of unity that the games encompasses. I was SO disappointed when they kept it there.

I wonder how much MORE proud those athletes would have been if their country had said, let's party in Aspen. We don't WANT to participate with people who don't accept ALL of us.

Some Olympic athletes only get ONE chance to participate in the games. If I spent my entire life training for one day of competition only to find out that it was going to be marred by the negativity and hate of the country hosting it, I would be so sorely disappointed.

  • I'm having my DNA analyzed by 23andme.com (thanks for the Christmas present, mom!  Seriously, I'm super excited about getting my results.  I love this sort of thing.), and I really hope there is at least a fair percentage of African heritage in our blood so that I can post on facebook and totally freak out the racist, xenophobic members of my family on my mother's side.  Bonus points if I get African AND Middle Eastern.  I'm so tired of the anti-English speaking, anti-immigrant rhetoric from my cousins (and occasionally my brother...sigh).

I woke up this morning and I'm finally feeling some relief from my root canal that I had on Tuesday.  I've had this very painful throbbing for three days and the dentist said I needed to wait for the swelling to show up and that would help relieve some of the pressure.  The plus side is that my mouth isn't throbbing, but the down side is my mouth and face are very swollen to the point that it hurts to talk (I'm even swollen under my tongue...?) and I can barely open my mouth to eat anything.

  • Congratulations @mrsvedo! We  had a similar situation with my MIL and FB.  I had to have H sit her down and tell her to keep it off FB completely. We actually have not posted anything about our pregnancy and don't plan on posting about the baby. I'm sorry, I know how stressful family and FB can  be.

  • @mrsvedo - my mom posted on FB that I was pregnant before we were telling people and couldn't understand why I was so upset.

About the Olympics - I think it was the onus of the Olypmic committee to change venues (which they should have done - Russia argued that everything was nearly ready and couldn't be stopped, but according to news reports I've seen, this can't have been true).  I agree with pp - for someone whose entire life has been focused on going to the Olympics, only have the rug pulled out from under them because of a crappy siting decision and overall poor planning, that it would be absolutely awful.

I also think that you should be eliminated from being able to compete in the Olympics if you (1) have been on your country's team many times before, and (2) are a paid professional in your sport - and I mean getting paid for playing your sport full time as a job, not that you don't work because you win prize money or make Gatorade commercials.  I realize I'm in the minority for these views.
