NBR: Friday Thoughts

What's something that you recently discovered that has totally blown your mind?

Mine are that you use bobby pins ridged side down and how much easier opening a banana is from the bottom.  I felt like I had been tricked!

  • For the Outlander fans, remember the bit in DIA where Jamie tells Claire how to identify when a rainstorm is coming?  When you see the underside of the leaves?

My grandfather told me that when I was little.  It made me smile to remember it and miss him a bit.

I'm one of these people.  Cilantro is disgusting to me.
  • I'm amazed that the ability to smell asparagus pee is genetic.  And also psyched that I can't smell it.

  • I blew my students' minds today by telling them about regional dialect.

The book we're reading today says that someone waits "on line" in the cafeteria, and they all thought it was a typo.

  • If I didn't know better, I'd think @KelsNotChels was leading this teenage flash mob.

    (Don't worry, it's totally SFW.)

Description: So, I'm in Kentucky for work and today when we got back, 1000 high school students had checked into our hotel. They had been making quite the ruckus tonight, but then did this to celebrate the start of the Olympics. Not the best video, (cause my fear kept me pretty far from the edge) but that's 18 levels of them singing! Amazing!

  • If you go diving at dawn or dusk, barracuda will school with you because it's safe to school with larger fish.  Just don't wear anything shiny that can be mistaken for the flash of a little fish.

  • I also had no idea the Sochi Olympic slogan is "Hot. Cool. Yours."  What is this, Cool Runnings? o_O

    SO AWESOME!
  • Oh, and also, I'm so impressed by the talent in this family.  Imagine having three daughters and they all compete in the same sport in the Olympics together?!?  Imagine going to the Olympics with your sisters?
