Pride and Prejudice. I need to read more classics. I avoided them in high school.
I avoided them too which is why I'm trying to jump back in.  Plus at my high school, our English teachers didn't really teach too many classics.

I did too.   I made it my goal this year to read more classics.  So I'm thankful for this thread so I can get some ideas.
    Siggy coming soon....
  • I seem to be the only person ever to have thought this, but I found both Pride & Prejudice and To Kill a Mockingbird EXTREMELY boring. I hate them both. Add Jane Eyre to that list as well.

I love Wuthering Heights, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Frankenstein, Dracula, Iliad and Odyssey, The Poetic and Prose Eddas, The Book of Skálholt and The Bloody Chamber.

I'm with you on Pride & Prejudice and Jane Eyre, which is one of my all-time least favorite books ever.  I read Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall as an adult, not because I had to and I hated each one of them.  I have decided I am just not a fan of the Bronte sisters.

  • My all time favorite is Sons and Lovers by D.H. Lawrence.  Lawrence's The Rainbow and Women in Love also make my list.  Also, Little Women, Emma (I am not a fan of Austen, other than Emma, I just cannot get into her other novels at all), Looking Backward, Symposium.
  • I love DH Lawrence.  He makes me swoon.

This makes me happy to see someone else appreciate him.  I don't know if I've ever seen him mentioned on these boards (other than my mentions).  Other than my husband, who has read Lady Chatterley's Lover, no one I know in real life has read any Lawrence.  Sometimes it's so lonely, lol.
